The City of Ottawa’s list of certified candidates shows Brenda Abramson’s nomination for trustee of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board in Zone 3 dated July 6, 2026. The City’s open data file shows no withdrawal. She gave the City a campaign website, a Facebook page and an Instagram account. CTV News Ottawa and The Leveller, which calls her a newcomer in Barrhaven, name her, and CBC News of July 23, 2026 quotes her. The other candidates in the zone are Kenneth (Kangwu) Xi and Daniel Pershick.
Her campaign website says she has lived in Barrhaven for over 35 years, is a chartered professional accountant, and is a retired government executive with roles in budgeting, cost accounting and value-for-money audits. It says she is the mother of two Barrhaven graduates of the board’s schools and a lifelong volunteer, and lists work as a financial literacy instructor for CPA Canada, a Volunteer of the Year award from a community resource centre, treasurer of the board of Nepean Housing Corporation, past chair of the board of the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Ottawa, and roles with other community groups. It also says she has over 25 years of experience in hiring and in performance reviews and experience in collective bargaining. These are her own statements, and voche.me has not checked them with the organizations.
The board’s page says that since June 27, 2025 the board has been under supervision by the Minister of Education, so that decisions normally made by trustees are made by the appointed Supervisor. Her website says the trustee role in setting policy has been reduced and that she will focus on areas where a trustee still has authority. Her four priorities are collective bargaining, where she says trustees keep a role in local bargaining matters; school safety, where she says she has heard from parents who moved their children because of bullying and that, since October 7, Jewish students do not feel safe; special programs such as French Immersion, alternative education and special education; and strong governance, where she says she will work with fellow board members so that the minister has no grounds for suspending trustees.
In the CBC News report of July 23, 2026 she is quoted saying that if candidates do not run, the province could be encouraged to keep control of the board, and that if nobody steps forward there is no possibility of transferring it back. The sources voche.me read hold no complaint or allegation about her.
