Richmond Forward's accountability pillar promises a value-for-dollar review, service targets and a public dashboard of key measurements for programs and services. The prosperity pillar promises economic development targets reported annually, a vision for a trade and exhibition centre, and incentives for commercial and industrial land.
TAXES AND THE CITY BUDGET
Richmond Forward on budget
The A in S.H.A.P.E. stands for accountability: a transparent city hall that "respects tax dollars, eliminates waste, and ensures strict financial responsibility". Its list has four items: a value-for-dollar review, service targets, a public dashboard of key measurements, and a freeze on permit application fees. Howard's statement to the City describes the review as external and as a deep look at City services to keep taxes low now and in future.
The P stands for prosperity. Its list promises an economic development target with dashboard measurements reported annually, a vision for a Trade and Exhibition Centre worked out with businesses, government and the community, an annual economic development report, incentives to redevelop commercial and industrial land, and incentives for tourism, recreation and heritage development at key waterfronts.
The home page says the organization's commitment is simple: "if it doesn't strengthen families, support seniors, grow local jobs, or respect taxpayers, we won't do it." The platform gives no tax target and no cost for any item.
