Andy Hobbs was re-elected to Richmond City Council on October 17, 2026. The City's official count gives him 12,985 votes, seventh of 55 candidates for the eight seats, 134 behind Kenny Chiu and 979 ahead of Kevin Lai. The City's declaration of election by voting of September 21, 2026 prints Richmond United as his elector organization. Richmond News reported on March 9, 2026 that he was seeking re-election with optometrist Mike Gill as his running mate; Gill was not elected. In a post on the organization's site after the vote he thanked voters, congratulated Mayor Rob Howard and the new Council, and said he was ready to get to work.
Richmond News reported that he won the by-election of May 29, 2021 with 3,095 votes, 23.8 per cent, to replace Kelly Greene, who had been elected to the Legislature, and that he was sworn in on June 14, 2021 and appointed to the community safety and public works and transportation committees. He ran as an independent then, endorsed by Mayor Malcolm Brodie and councillors Linda McPhail, Bill McNulty and Alexa Loo, the paper reported. In October 2022 he was re-elected with Richmond United, the Richmond Sentinel reported, and the City's minutes of November 28, 2022 list him at the first meeting of that term. Richmond News reported in 2014 that he ran for council with Richmond First.
In the 2022 to 2026 term, the City's minutes of November 28, 2022 record him with Councillors Au and Loo opposed to the bylaws ending residential use on the south side of Bayview Street in Steveston. Richmond News reported that in June 2023 he, Councillor Loo and Mayor Brodie voted against seeking Olympic Oval board members by public call, and that in July 2025 he called a review of the Oval's governance timely and said he had no preconception whether it should stay a corporation or move under the City.
Richmond News and the Richmond Sentinel describe him as a retired Vancouver Police Department superintendent and a former two-term Richmond school trustee. A Governor General's announcement of May 16, 2011 lists Superintendent Andrew Hobbs of the Vancouver Police Department among the new Members of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces. By his own account, in the statement he gave the City and on his organization's pages, he grew up in Richmond, graduated from Richmond High and the University of British Columbia, joined the Vancouver Police Department in 1979 and retired in 2014 as the superintendent commanding North Command, was acting chief officer of the Transit Police in 2011, was elected trustee in 2002 and 2005, received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, and has volunteered with the Kigoos Swim Club, the Steveston Salmon Festival, the Richmond Hospital Foundation, Tourism Richmond, the Britannia Shipyards society and marine search and rescue. voche.me has not checked these with the police department, the school district or those organizations.
