01 / Introduction
About Peter Milobar
Peter Milobar is the Conservative Party candidate in Kamloops Centre on Elections BC's list for the general election of October 24, 2026. He won the district in 2024 with 12,372 votes, 48.83% of the valid vote, according to the Elections BC statement of votes.
The legislature record lists his election years as 2017, 2020 and 2024. The Ashcroft-Cache Creek Journal reported that he was a Kamloops city councillor from 2002 to 2008, was elected mayor in 2008 and re-elected in 2011 and 2014, and won Kamloops-North Thompson as a BC Liberal in 2017 and 2020. A Conservative caucus release of June 30, 2026 names him Critic for Finance.
He entered the race for Conservative leader on January 16, 2026. Radio NL reported that he finished fifth of five on the first ballot on May 30, with just over 10% support, and Kerry-Lynne Findlay won. On August 14 he left the Conservative caucus, saying his values did not align with the party's new direction under Findlay, Black Press Media reported.
On September 18, 2026 he became leader of CentreBC after Mike Bernier stepped aside, and seven other MLAs joined with him, according to Vista Radio and CBC News. On September 22, the day the election was called, he and six of those MLAs returned to the Conservatives. He told Castanet that Findlay's resignation, the removal of some party staff and promises of a more progressive policy approach brought him back. CentreBC said he did not discuss the move with its executive. The legislature still lists him as Independent, and Elections BC lists him as the Conservative Party candidate.
In the legislature in 2026 he gave the first opposition reply to the budget and asked questions on the sales tax on business services, the interest rate on property tax deferral for seniors, delayed long-term care projects and DRIPA, the provincial law on Indigenous rights. On May 6 he presented the yearly report of the Public Accounts Committee.
The party's candidate page says he served as Opposition House Leader, chaired the Thompson Regional Hospital District for five terms and has been a Thompson-Nicola Regional District director since 2005. Those are the party's own statements.
