01 / Introduction
About Nick Gottlieb
Elections BC lists Nick Gottlieb as the BC Green Party candidate in Skeena. The party announced his candidacy on September 25, 2026, in a release that also named its candidates for North Coast-Haida Gwaii and New Westminster-Coquitlam.
In the release he says he has lived in Terrace for five years. The party describes him as a community organizer, writer and PhD candidate at Simon Fraser University who studies the economics and politics of the LNG industry. The party also says he received a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship in 2025. voche.me has not checked the degree or the award with Simon Fraser University or the scholarship program.
The David Suzuki Foundation lists him as co-author, with Youssef Bouchi, of its October 2025 report on B.C. LNG. He writes columns for Canadian Dimension, and in September 2026 Business in Vancouver published his opinion piece on the province's gas royalty revenue. BC Whitewater, a volunteer-run river group, lists him as vice-president on its board.
He was not a candidate in 2024. In that election Claire Rattée of the Conservative Party won Skeena with 6,243 votes (51.20 percent), ahead of Sarah Zimmerman of the BC NDP with 5,419 (44.44 percent). Both are on the 2026 ballot in Skeena again.

More investment in health care
The party's page about him says he is running to push for more investment in health care. The party release says the same.
Evidence & next checks
Evidence reviewed
Both texts are written by the party about him. Neither names a measure, a number, a cost or a date.
What still needs checking
What would he change first in health care in Skeena?
Against selling B.C. industries to foreign investors at low prices
In the party release he says politicians answer the problems people face with budget cuts, fewer rules, and selling B.C. industries to foreign investors at low prices. The release says he is running to fight for B.C. workers.
Evidence & next checks
Evidence reviewed
His own words quoted by the party. He names what he opposes; he names no measure, number, cost or date.
What still needs checking
What would he change in how the Province approves or taxes resource projects such as LNG?
A solar facility in the Skeena Industrial Development Park
In a February 2026 letter to the Terrace Standard, written before the party named him, he urged the City of Terrace and Kitselas First Nation to build a solar facility on the industrial park land instead of a gas project.
Evidence & next checks
Evidence reviewed
The land is owned by the City and Kitselas First Nation, so the decision is theirs and sits outside an MLA's powers. His campaign has not repeated the idea on any page voche.me found.
What still needs checking
Would he use provincial money or rules to support a solar project in the region?
The BC Green Party says a Fair Share Act would raise more than $13 billion from the richest people and from large corporations, and it proposes a windfall tax on large corporations.
Evidence & next checks
Evidence reviewed
This is the party's plan from its platform page. The page does not name him, and voche.me has not found him repeating it.
What still needs checking
Does he support the Fair Share Act in his own words?
Party plan: higher gas royalties and LNG paying its own power costs
The BC Green Party says it will end subsidies to fossil fuel companies, take back control of royalty rates, and make existing LNG projects pay their own power costs.
Evidence & next checks
Evidence reviewed
This is the party's plan from its platform page. The page does not name him, and voche.me has not found him repeating it.
What still needs checking
Does he, as a researcher of the LNG industry, add his own measure to this?
The one dated action is a 2025 report he co-wrote, confirmed by the organization that published it.
Published
Co-wrote a David Suzuki Foundation report on B.C. LNG
The foundation lists him and Youssef Bouchi as authors of "Running on Fumes", a report that tests the economic claims made for LNG in B.C. and finds them overstated. The report recommends an independent review of the economic effects of LNG.
Scope, limits and sources
The foundation's page gives October 2025 with no day, so the date marks the month. His Business in Vancouver piece of September 2026 refers to the report as one he co-wrote.

Statement
Named as the BC Green candidate in Skeena
In the party's release he says people in Terrace can see a crisis, and that politicians answer it with budget cuts, fewer rules and selling industries to foreign investors.
Opinion piece on the Province's gas royalty revenue
In Business in Vancouver he argues that the 2026 budget counts on gas prices close to doubling, and that higher prices would raise costs for households and industry in B.C.
In Canadian Dimension he argues that control of Canadian pension funds should be taken from the financial elite and the money directed toward building the country's shared future.
In a letter to the Terrace Standard he argues that the City and Kitselas First Nation should build a solar facility on the park land instead of a gas project.

Check the evidence
Sources checked September 30, 2026. Official records establish decisions; campaign material establishes stated positions; reporting adds investigation and context. None alone establishes every claim.
No campaign website of his own was found; nickgottlieb.ca and nickgottlieb.com do not answer. His party candidate page lists no personal social media accounts. A Bluesky account named Nick Gottlieb describes a writer who studies LNG, but no page ties it to this candidacy and it holds no campaign post up to 2026-09-30, so nothing from it is used. His PhD candidacy at Simon Fraser University and his 2025 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship are stated by the party, and the PhD also by his own author note; voche.me has not checked either with the university or the scholarship program. The party says he helped found the Squamish Resilience Network and the Skeena Local Action Network; no page from either group naming him was found. His writing in Canada's National Observer was not read, because that site returned HTTP 403. No news report on his candidacy, no all-candidates meeting in Skeena, no endorsements and no campaign finance records were found on this date. The party's full platform is listed as coming soon.
