About Nicholas Cartmell

Elections BC lists Nicholas Cartmell as the Conservative Party of BC candidate in Surrey-Cloverdale on its candidate list dated October 3, 2026, printed after nominations closed at 1 p.m. PT that day. The same list shows Stephen Dooley (BC NDP), Travis Marchenski (OneBC) and Pat McCutcheon (BC Green Party). In 2024 Elenore Sturko won the district for the Conservative Party with 10,268 votes (48.31 percent), and Mike Starchuk (BC NDP) had 9,682 votes (45.56 percent). Cartmell is not in the 2024 statement of votes. The 2026 list shows Sturko as a CentreBC candidate in Surrey South.

His page on the Conservative Party of BC website calls him a brand strategist and community sport builder. The page says he has lived in Surrey since 2012. These are the party's statements, and voche.me has not checked them with a second source.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame announced on May 22, 2019 that it had appointed Nicholas Cartmell as its Chief Executive. The Hall's release of June 16, 2023 about his successor says he left the post in March 2023 for a leadership role at Chairman-Mills, Ltd. after four years as CEO. The party's page says he led the Hall. voche.me ties the Hall's records to the candidate through that page.

An archived copy of Capilano University's Board of Governors page, saved on June 30, 2018, lists Mr. Nicholas Cartmell as an appointed member, named by the provincial government, for a term from July 31, 2016 to December 31, 2017. The party's page says he served on the board from 2016 to 2018 and chaired its Investment Committee. The university page shows the term ending on December 31, 2017 and names no committee.

The Surrey Now-Leader reported on August 26, 2026 that the Surrey 2027 55+ BC Games board includes Nicholas Cartmell as vice-president. The paper gives the Games as September 2027.

The party's page also says he spent 14 years at TELUS, most recently as Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives, Partnerships and Government Relations, and negotiated $51 million in partnerships and investments, then ran the Western Canadian division of a large event rental company. It says he chaired business and community engagement for the 102nd Grey Cup Festival in Vancouver, and that he raised the funding for the Hall's Indigenous Sport Gallery. voche.me has not confirmed any of these. The Hall's 2019 release calls him a 14-year telecom industry veteran. Its records give 2018 as the year the gallery was established, before his appointment on May 22, 2019. See the research gaps.

Evidence reviewed
This is the party's statement about its ten Surrey candidates as a group, in a release posted by its leader. It does not name Cartmell as the speaker and gives no measure, cost or date, so voche.me records it as the party's pledge and has not found it in his own words.
What still needs checking
Which measure would he bring forward, at what cost, and by when?

Policies, budgets & programs

His past roles come from the Hall, the university and a Surrey newspaper where voche.me could find them, and from the party's page where it could not. None is a seat in a legislature or council, so none earns a score.

No policy statement in his own words, no interview, no all-candidates meeting and no party news release naming him as a speaker was found on 2026-10-03. The campaign page at nicholascartmell.ca offers volunteer, lawn sign and donation forms only, and its address nicholascartmell.com redirects to it. The party's candidate page links only to the party's own accounts. Accounts under the name nickcartmell on Instagram and X and a LinkedIn profile for a Nicholas Cartmell answered a direct read, and no campaign page links to any of them, so nothing from them is used. The name search was limited: the search tool was at its usage limit and the public search pages that answered returned nothing usable for most queries. voche.me read the party's pages, a campaign page, and the sites of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, Capilano University, the 55+ BC Games, the Surrey Now-Leader and the North Delta Reporter. The party says he raised the funding for the Hall's Indigenous Sport Gallery and led the effort to bring it online. Hall releases give 2018 as the year the gallery was established, before his appointment on May 22, 2019. They report $198,000 in provincial funding on November 30, 2021, a federal grant of $560,000 on June 1, 2022 and the digital gallery's launch on April 21, 2024, and none of the three names him. The party's statement therefore stands unconfirmed. The party says he chaired the Investment Committee at Capilano University. The archived page names no committee, and no board minutes were found. The party says he served until 2018 and the university page shows a term ending December 31, 2017. The party says he chaired business and community engagement for the 102nd Grey Cup Festival and negotiated $51 million at TELUS, and no source for either was found. The Chairman-Mills, Ltd. role in the Hall's release was not matched to the party's description of an event rental division, its size or its number of employees. The party's page says he is raising a young son in Surrey. Family details are left out of this record. The Surrey 2027 55+ BC Games announcement page of August 26, 2026 shows a heading and no text, so the board list comes from the Surrey Now-Leader only. No court, regulator or complaint record was searched beyond the name search, and an empty accountability section records that. Campaign finances and endorsements were not found.

What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-03: the Elections BC candidate list and key dates, the 2024 statement of votes, the party's candidate page for Nicholas Cartmell, its team page, platform page and its release naming the Surrey candidates, the campaign page at nicholascartmell.ca, two BC Sports Hall of Fame releases about the chief executive post, six Hall releases about its Indigenous Sport Gallery, an archived Capilano University Board of Governors page, and Surrey Now-Leader and North Delta Reporter articles. Name, district and party affiliation are as Elections BC prints them.

The search tool was at its usage limit on this date, so the name search was limited to public search pages and to the sites that hold his records. The campaign page offers volunteer, lawn sign and donation forms and states no policy. No social media account linked from a campaign page was found. An empty section records what voche.me did not find on this date.
