The party's page says he was the elected Capital Regional District director for the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area for 13 years. The regional district's own page of past election results lists Mike Hicks as elected with 666 votes in 2011 and acclaimed in 2014, and Michael Hicks as elected with 849 votes in 2018. It lists Al Wickheim as elected in 2022. Minutes of the regional district's Electoral Areas Committee from 2019 and 2020 list Director M. Hicks as the committee's chair.
The party says he has lived in the area for 28 years and is a graduate of the hotel management program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. It says he worked in forestry, tourism, hospitality and recreational fishing, managed resorts, owned fishing lodges in Hakai Pass, Sointula, Bamfield and Port Renfrew, and now runs a guesthouse in Sooke. voche.me has not checked these statements with the institute or the businesses.
The party says that as director he pressed for the East Sooke fire hall, a new Roche Cove bridge, Highway 14 access from Gillespie Road, an artificial turf field in Sooke, the Charters River salmon hatchery, the Sooke library and regional park land. It also says he led work that brought seven new cell towers to a 70 kilometre stretch of Highway 14. voche.me has not checked these statements with the regional district or the other bodies involved.

How would the party pay for its plans without new revenue?
His record as director for the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area comes from the Capital Regional District's own election results and committee minutes. Only motions where the minutes name him are listed.
Carried at committee, as recorded in the minutes
Moved the Juan de Fuca development fees and procedures bylaw
The minutes record that Director Hicks moved that the committee recommend the regional board introduce and adopt Bylaw No. 3885, the Juan de Fuca Development Fees and Procedures Bylaw, and approve two application policies, one for cannabis retail licences and one for antenna systems. The motion carried.
Scope, limits and sources
A committee motion that recommends action to the regional board. The bylaw's title says it sets fees and procedures for development in the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area. voche.me did not open the bylaw text or the board's later decision.
Moved the appointment of a poet laureate for Juan de Fuca
The minutes record that Chair Hicks spoke in support of appointing Wendy Morton as poet laureate for the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area, and that Director Hicks moved the appointment. The motion carried.
Scope, limits and sources
A regional arts appointment with no tie to a provincial issue, so this entry earns no score.
Spoke on support for a Jordan River to Port Renfrew internet project
The minutes record that Chair Hicks spoke to an item on a TELUS application for provincial and federal grants to extend internet service to Jordan River and Port Renfrew. Director Howe moved that the regional district send a letter of support, and the motion carried.
Scope, limits and sources
The minutes do not record what he said or how he voted, so this entry earns no score.
Moved to add Juan de Fuca to a request for the rural Home Owner Grant
The committee considered a resolution asking the Union of British Columbia Municipalities to request that the Province treat the regional district's electoral areas as rural for the BC Home Owner Grant. The minutes say this grant on property tax is larger for people who live in a rural area. Director Hicks moved to add Juan de Fuca to the areas named in the resolution, and the amended resolution carried.
Scope, limits and sources
A committee recommendation to the regional board. voche.me did not open the board's later decision or any provincial response.

Named on the Times Colonist candidate list
A list of candidates in Vancouver Island districts, last updated October 1, 2026. It names him as the B.C. Conservative candidate in Juan de Fuca-Malahat. It carries no quote from him.
Sources checked October 2, 2026. Official records establish decisions; campaign material establishes stated positions; reporting adds investigation and context. None alone establishes every claim.
voche.me found no campaign website or social media account of his own on 2026-10-02. The party's candidate page links only to the party's own accounts. Web search tools were limited on this date: the usual search service had no searches left, and two other search pages blocked automated searches after a few tries, so news searches used the Google News feed. The party's candidate page labels him "Interim Conservative Party Leader". The party's team page names Lorne Doerkson as leader and lists Hicks only as the Juan de Fuca-Malahat candidate, so voche.me does not repeat that label. His hotel management studies, his work in forestry, tourism and fishing, his lodges and his guesthouse are stated by the party and were not checked. The projects the party says he pressed for as director, and the seven cell towers on Highway 14, were not checked with the regional district or the other bodies involved. The regional district's results page starts in 2011, so the start of his 13 years as director, as the party gives it, was not confirmed. The regional district's current site no longer holds the older minutes, so four sets of Electoral Areas Committee minutes were read through Internet Archive copies; minutes of the regional board itself and of other committees were not read, and no recorded vote of his at the board was reviewed. A July 2026 letter to the Sooke News Mirror on fishing rules is signed by a Mike Hicks of Sooke. No page read ties that letter to this candidacy, so it is left out. No all-candidates meeting in the district, no endorsement and no campaign finance report were found on this date. Nominations close October 3, 2026, so other candidates may still be added. The questionnaire has not been sent.
