In August 2024, CHEK News reported that Joshua Dahling was BC United's candidate in Mid Island-Pacific Rim when that party stopped its campaign. He told CHEK he was surprised and disappointed. In October 2024, NanaimoNewsNOW reported that he lost the federal Conservative nomination in Courtenay-Alberni to Kris McNichol.
In 2022 he ran for Port Alberni City Council. CivicInfo BC's results table shows he received 740 votes (14.84 percent) and placed 17th of 21 candidates for six seats. CHEK News reported that his priorities then were more doctors for the area, a treatment centre for addiction in Port Alberni, and housing that workers can afford.
The party says he was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, came to Canada in 1980, moved to Nanaimo to study human services after leaving the logging industry, and worked in alcohol and drug treatment centres. It says that in 2009 he began building LUMARA, a registered charity for children and families facing serious illness, grief and loss, and that he moved to Port Alberni in 2018. His campaign website gives 1998 as the year he left logging. LUMARA's own team page lists him as co-founder, Director of Operations and Director of Youth Services. voche.me has not checked his education or his earlier jobs with the schools or employers.

voche.me found no elected office held by him on 2026-10-01, so it found no voting record to review. His 2022 council result comes from CivicInfo BC.
Not elected
Ran for Port Alberni City Council
Received 740 votes (14.84 percent), 17th of 21 candidates for six council seats.
Scope, limits and sources
CivicInfo BC's results table gives the votes. CHEK News gives October 15, 2022 as general voting day. A run for office is no completed action, so this entry earns no score.
Records are labelled by type, including official findings, civil proceedings and political disputes where applicable. Each entry identifies the response found in the sources and the latest status verified for this page.
No reviewed entries have been added to this section yet. This is a research gap, not a finding about the candidate.

Reporting
Alberni Valley News · Austin Kelly
Party leadership candidate visits Port Alberni
Peter Milobar told the paper that Dahling, who was set to be BC United's candidate in 2024, briefed him on local concerns.
Sources checked October 1, 2026. Official records establish decisions; campaign material establishes stated positions; reporting adds investigation and context. None alone establishes every claim.
His Facebook page (VoteJoshuaDahling) and Instagram account (joshuadahling) show only a sign-in page to direct reads, and nothing from them is used. His X account answered a direct request without signing in and showed his profile line and six recent posts; most of his 2,973 posts were not read, and two of the posts shown are cut short. The 2022 council candidate, the 2024 federal nomination candidate and the 2026 candidate are tied to one person this way: CHEK News's 2022 profile links to joshuadahling.ca, which is his 2026 campaign website, and the page title of that website still names him as a nomination candidate for the Conservative Party of Canada in Courtenay-Alberni. The 2024 BC United candidacy rests on the CHEK News and Alberni Valley News reports, which name the same district; voche.me did not open a BC United page, because votebcunited.ca returned an empty page. CivicInfo BC's site returned HTTP 403, so the 2022 results were read from an Internet Archive copy of August 10, 2025. voche.me did not find the City of Port Alberni's own declaration of results on this date. The party's candidate page labels him "Interim Conservative Party Leader". The party's team page lists him only as the Mid Island-Pacific Rim candidate, so voche.me does not repeat that label. His education and his work in treatment centres are stated by the party and his campaign; voche.me has not checked them with the schools or employers. LUMARA's role for him comes from LUMARA's own team page. One paragraph on his campaign website speaks of Canadians and "our country", so no provincial commitment is taken from it. The party's platform page says the platform is coming soon and does not name him, and the party's news page does not name him. All-candidates meetings in Mid Island-Pacific Rim for 2026, campaign finances and endorsements were not found on this date. Nominations close October 3, 2026, so other candidates may still be added. The questionnaire has not been sent.
