2022 election: the mayor's chair, a council majority and three trustees
Eric Woodward was elected mayor of the Township, and the group won six of the nine seats on Council, by the Langley Advance Times' account. Its 2022 disclosure statement endorses Woodward and six council candidates: Tim Baillie, AJ Cheema, Steve Ferguson, Barb Martens, Rob Rindt and Misty Van Popta; Cheema was not elected. Three of its school trustee candidates, Holly Dickinson, Joel Neufeld and Sarb Rai, were elected.
Trustee Holly Dickinson leaves the slate
Holly Dickinson announced she was leaving Contract With Langley, citing differences in vision and values with Woodward on governance. Woodward said she had refused to rotate the vice-chair position as agreed. Each account is the person's own.
2022 to 2026: the term's projects and debt
The organization's accomplishments page lists the widening of 208 Street, a new fire hall for Brookswood-Fernridge, the arenas at the Langley Events Centre, Smith Athletic Park, 39 new firefighters, 11 new RCMP officers, the Township housing trust and the de-integration of the RCMP detachment, by its own account. The Langley Advance Times named the 208 Street widening, the Brookswood fire hall, a five-rink complex and the Smith Athletic Park soccer complex among the projects approved. CBC reported the Township had authorized $602 million in debt during the term.
Council votes to consider legal action over anonymous videos
The legal response filed by Woodward and councillors Baillie and Rindt, as reported by the Langley Advance Times, says Council voted six to three in a closed meeting on September 23, 2025 to consider legal action and find out who was behind anonymous videos alleging corruption in the purchase of fire trucks. Woodward, Baillie and Rindt filed a libel suit; Baillie and Rindt later withdrew and Woodward's case continued. Woodward says he repaid the Township's legal costs with interest. None of the claims had been tested in court.
The 2026 budget passes five to four
Council passed the 2026 budget, with a 3.97 per cent property tax increase, 17 more firefighting positions, two RCMP officers and two bylaw officers, by five votes to four. All five Progress for Langley members voted in favour and the four other councillors against.
July 2026: up to $500,000 authorized for legal costs in the disqualification petition
A record released from a closed meeting showed Council had voted to authorize up to $500,000 for the legal costs of Woodward, Baillie and Rindt in the petition seeking their disqualification, with the five Progress for Langley councillors in favour and three Langley Strong councillors opposed, by the Advance Times' account. The exact day of the vote is not in the report.
