Jat Puri was elected to Delta Council on October 17, 2026. The City of Delta's official count gives him 11,756 votes, fifth among the 20 council candidates, and the Chief Election Officer declared him elected on October 21, 2026. The North Delta Reporter reported that this was 7.06 per cent of the ballots cast for councillor. On election night he told the Reporter that what the team heard most across Delta was the wish to bring people's voices back to Council, through question and answer sessions at meetings and advisory committees, and that residents in both North and South Delta spoke of the Official Community Plan and its effects.
The Reporter reported on March 11, 2026 that he was one of the three council candidates announced with Delta First, a new organization led by mayoral candidate Melissa Granum, and described him as an operations specialist, terminal programs, with the Vancouver Airport Authority. The Reporter's election night report says the Delta First team had never held public office before.
By his own account, on the Delta First site, in the statement he gave the Delta Optimist and in the Reporter's questionnaire, he has worked for 21 years at Vancouver International Airport, writing emergency policies, managing budgets and coordinating terminal construction, with planning for the 2026 FIFA World Cup among his work; he speaks Punjabi and Hindi; his parents came to Canada more than 45 years ago; he has chaired non-profit boards and worked with councils, mayors, MLAs and MPs as a volunteer; and he received a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee pin for volunteer service. He and his wife chose North Delta as their home three and a half years before the vote. voche.me has not checked the airport role, the board roles or the award with the bodies named.
In the Reporter's questionnaire he named three priorities: infrastructure impact assessments that keep pace with housing growth, responsible growth that protects neighbourhoods and the mature tree canopy, and accountable, transparent local government with strong fiscal policy. He wrote that he would champion mandatory infrastructure impact assessments for major housing proposals and tie approvals to upgrade plans for roads, utilities, parks and emergency services. In his Optimist statement he promised to protect neighbourhood character and the tree canopy, bring in a strict Council code of conduct, and bring back open public question and answer sessions.
Delta First's platform, released on September 8, 2026, and its First 90 Days plan of June 22, 2026 carry the team's promises: an enforceable Council code of conduct, the return of public question period, citizen advisory committees, a zero-based review of the City budget, a public review of the Official Community Plan and a challenge to the Province's Bill 44 housing rules. Those are the organization's promises, and this page lists them as such.
