Erin Coffin won the Kanata South council seat on Monday, October 26, defeating four-term incumbent Allan Hubley in the only seat change among Ottawa's 24 wards. The Ottawa Citizen reported the result overnight.

Coffin, a Health Canada policy adviser, received 7,878 votes (49.69%), according to unofficial results reported by the Ottawa Citizen. Hubley received 5,248 votes (32.49%). The two other candidates in the race were Sam Bhalesar with 9.76% and Megan Strazds-Esenbergs with 7.78%. In total, 16,001 ballots were cast in the ward, a turnout of 38.83%.

Coffin told the Ottawa Citizen the message she wanted to send was that Kanata South residents "deserve some new energy, and we deserve to be heard." She said she was overwhelmed by the result and described her win as that message landing. "We've got four years to get some business done," she said.

The race and the result

Hubley first won the Kanata South seat in 2010 and was serving his fourth term on council, according to the Ottawa Citizen. This was Coffin's second run against him; she ran previously and lost. The Ottawa Citizen reported that Coffin had campaigned on being responsive to residents and bringing new energy to the ward.

Hubley did not respond to the Ottawa Citizen's request for comment before press time and held a private election night gathering for his supporters and campaign team.

Across all 24 Ottawa wards, Kanata South was the only one where an incumbent lost. In every other ward where an incumbent ran, that candidate won re-election, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

What comes next

Coffin will take her seat on a new Ottawa City Council that held its first meeting after voting day. The City of Ottawa says official results will be published by October 30, 2026.
