The City’s list of certified candidates shows Yoosaf Melparamba’s nomination for Ward 24 Barrhaven East dated May 25, 2026, with the same date for his registration in the City’s Contribution Rebate Program. The City list gives him a website and Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat accounts. CBC News describes him as a realtor, and CTV News Ottawa describes him as a real estate agent.
In the CTV News Ottawa questionnaire he says he is a licensed Realtor with Royal LePage, with earlier experience as an administrator at the same office, and a community leader with the Malayali Association who organizes local cultural events and fundraisers. He says he has lived in Ottawa for almost five years and works in Barrhaven East every day, and in the CBC News questionnaire he gives 0 years as his time living in the ward. In the CBC News questionnaire he says he is president of the Malayali Association of Ottawa. In the Barrhaven Bugle he says he has served on the Real Estate Board’s Member and Impact Committee. voche.me did not check these roles with the bodies named.
On politics he says in the CTV News Ottawa questionnaire that he has been part of two provincial campaigns and the last federal campaign and is a director at the local provincial riding association. The sources read do not name the party or parties, and voche.me did not infer one.
Capital Current reports that he has started a petition calling for a non-stop express bus between Fallowfield and Tunney’s Pasture. He says in the Barrhaven Bugle that the petition has over 600 signatures and that he took it to OC Transpo’s general manager in person, and in the CBC News questionnaire he says it has over 700 signatures. voche.me did not check the petition or the number of signatures.
His campaign site lists a plan in sixteen points. The first five points of the full platform are widening Prince of Wales Drive and Greenbank Road with Community Safety Zones near schools, a youth centre for ages 12 to 18, a redesign of OC Transpo’s route planning led by riders and operators, a promise to put Barrhaven East’s priorities into every City budget, and a review of flood and stormwater plans along the Jock River. Others include $5,000 a month from his office budget for seniors programs, monthly reports to residents and an office in the ward, hospital and health access, active transportation, waste and recycling information, and a warning ticket system for first-time parking offences. His campaign site and the CBC News questionnaire also criticize the sitting Councillor, saying Barrhaven East has a councillor who communicates well but has not delivered results to match, and that the ward has no new Community Safety Zones after four years. voche.me did not check these statements. In the CBC News questionnaire he says the 2027 property tax increase should be lower than 3.75 percent, without giving a figure, with higher fare recovery on OC Transpo, and that the police budget should be increased but only with accountability. These are his own statements. The sources read hold no complaint against him.
