The City of Ottawa’s list of certified candidates for Ward 18 shows Muhyadin Omar Barkhat’s nomination dated August 12, 2026, with the same date for his registration in the Contribution Rebate Program. The list gives a TikTok account for him and no website. CBC News and CTV News Ottawa use both Muhyadin Omar Barkhat and Muhyadin Barkhat for him. The sitting Councillor, Marty Carr, and three other challengers (Tressy El-Hawi, Derek McSweeney and Elsa Niyongabo) are also certified in the ward.
In the CTV News Ottawa questionnaire he calls himself “a newbie” in politics who has watched politics closely since early childhood. He writes that he works at “airport international” and has a diploma, that he previously lived in Alta Vista, and that he uses OC Transpo to get to work. In the CBC News questionnaire he says he has lived in the ward for 8 years. His CBC News answers about his professional and life experience name no employer, school or job. voche.me did not check where he lives, works or studied.
In the CTV News Ottawa questionnaire he says he would work to lower transit fares, even to zero. He does not support increasing the police budget and would spend that money on homelessness, housing and social housing, and he supports an infrastructure levy (a special tax charge for roads and sewers). He names lonely seniors, housing and road construction delays as the biggest issues in the ward, and says he would push for accountability in road and sewer contracts, open them to more private companies, and make a by-law to enforce City construction rules. In the CBC News questionnaire he says a housing-first strategy (homes come first for people who are homeless) is the City’s biggest challenge, supports a 2027 tax increase of at most 3 percent, chooses a transit levy to cover OC Transpo deficits, and says the police budget is appropriate while he also wants other public safety spending. He rates 5 on a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is strongly agree, the statement that adding more homes in existing neighbourhoods will matter for housing, and says the City should make road, water and sewer capacity a condition of growth. He lists repairing and widening roads, better traffic-light timing, safer crossings, parking areas and stronger enforcement of traffic rules as ways to ease traffic. These are his own statements, and voche.me did not check the facts in them. The TikTok account the City lists for him showed 0 videos and an empty profile on October 7, 2026.
