About Jaac Doduck

The City of Ottawa’s list of certified candidates shows Jaac Doduck’s nomination for Councillor in Ward 17 Capital dated August 5, 2026, and shows no registration in the Contribution Rebate Program. It gives a website, an X account and an Instagram account for him. He is one of three candidates in the ward, with the sitting Councillor Shawn Menard and Farah Gulzar. CBC News describes him as a Carleton University student. CTV News Ottawa says he has worked at the Glebe Community Centre.

His campaign website says that after moving to Ottawa for school he served as a councillor for the student union and twice as vice-president of finance for his program’s student society, and presided over Carleton’s yearly Model Parliament. It says he has worked in community spaces “for nearly a decade”, first with the Jewish Community Centre in Toronto and Ottawa and later at the Glebe Community Centre. In the CBC News questionnaire he says he has worked in community centres in Toronto and Ottawa for the past decade and has studied Public Affairs and Policy Management at Carleton. In the CTV News Ottawa questionnaire he says he has worked “for nearly 6 years” at various community centres in Toronto and Ottawa, including 2 years at the Glebe Community Centre. The three accounts give different lengths of time. In the CBC News questionnaire he says he may lack specific professional experience and points to his experience as a student, a renter and a user of OC Transpo.

His campaign page lists plans for a pilot Secondary Suite Incentive Program of up to $10,000 for homeowners who build a secondary suite, a rent bank, bus lanes on Carling Avenue, night bus service to Carleton University, a bike share pilot, a more people-first Bank Street redesign, better snow clearing of sidewalks and bike lanes, and a requirement that all City Council votes be recorded and published. In the CTV News Ottawa questionnaire he says he promises never to vote to increase OC Transpo fares, does not support increasing the police budget, and supports an infrastructure levy. In the CBC News questionnaire he chooses a transit levy for OC Transpo deficits beyond money from other levels of government, answers that the police budget is appropriate, and says the focus should be on a community safety system in which police are not the main responders to issues they are not trained for. These are his own statements, and voche.me has not checked them with the centres or the student bodies he names. No public role is on record in the profile. The sources read hold no complaint against him.

What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 6, 2026: the City’s list of certified candidates for Ward 17 (an Internet Archive copy) and its open data file, his campaign website (home, About Me, My Priorities), CBC News of August 25, 2026 and his CBC News questionnaire, and CTV News Ottawa of September 2026.

Gaps. His X, Instagram and Facebook pages and a LinkedIn profile showed no posts or content to a visitor who is not logged in. His work at the community centres and in student government rests on his own statements, which give different lengths of time for the centre work (“nearly a decade” on his website, “the past decade” for CBC News, “nearly 6 years” for CTV News Ottawa), and voche.me did not check them with the bodies named. No news report beyond the ward pages was found. The voche.me questionnaire has not been sent.
