The City’s list of certified candidates shows Ayub Omar’s nomination for Councillor in Ward 10 Gloucester-Southgate dated August 21, 2026, with the same date for his registration in the Contribution Rebate Program. He gave the City no website and no social media account. CBC News reported on August 25, 2026 that he works as a translator for immigration cases, and CTV News Ottawa lists him with the note that no email contact was available.
In the CBC News questionnaire he says he has lived in the ward for more than ten years and that he works as a translator for the Immigration and Refugee Board and for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, in immigration and refugee cases. He also says he works at a gas station, did years of door-to-door sales, and speaks English, French, Arabic and Somali. These are his own statements, and voche.me has not checked them with those employers.
He names transit as his top priority and says ridership on OC Transpo has fallen for seven straight months and is now at two-thirds of its level before the pandemic, by his count. These are his figures, and voche.me has not checked them. He would hold the 2027 property tax increase at 3.75 percent, the same as 2026, would raise fares to cover OC Transpo deficits, and calls the police budget appropriate while staying open to a change if data shows a gap in response times, staffing or community safety. He gives 4 on a scale where 5 is strongly agree to the statement that building more homes in built-up areas will be important for housing in the ward. He answers yes to prioritizing climate resilience even if it means spending less elsewhere.
He asks the City to enforce rent reductions that landlords owe tenants, to publish development charge spending (the fees the City charges builders of new homes) ward by ward, and to keep the Hunt Club Road and Bank Street widening project on schedule. The sources voche.me read hold no complaint or allegation about him.
