About Kristin Schnider

Kristin Schnider was re-elected to the Burnaby Board of Education on October 17, 2026. The City of Burnaby's count gives her 21,994 votes, the highest total of the 16 candidates for the seven trustee seats, and the City's chief election officer declared her elected on October 21, 2026. She ran with the Burnaby Citizens Association. Its seven trustee candidates took all seven seats, and Freshet News listed her in September 2026 as one of three BCA trustees seeking re-election.

She was first elected in October 2022. Burnaby Now's candidate questionnaire of September 2022 listed her as a BCA candidate, and the minutes of the board's first meeting of that term, on November 22, 2022, show the chair welcoming her as a new trustee. Burnaby Now reported that the BCA won all seven seats that year and that she won her first term. The board chose her as vice-chair in November 2022 and November 2023, and as chair on November 26, 2024. It chose her as chair again on December 16, 2025. The board also elected her as its provincial councillor to the BC School Trustees Association in 2022 and 2024.

As chair, she spoke for the board in April 2026 about a $9.4 million cost from a labour arbitration decision on teachers' pay. CBC News reported that she said the Province should pay it, because the provincial employers' association had negotiated the teachers' contract, and that without that money the district would have to cut core services.

By her own account, in the statement she gave the City and in the Freshet News questionnaire, she works in communications for the Public Service Alliance of Canada and served two terms as chair of the Burnaby District Parent Advisory Council. voche.me has not checked these with PSAC or the council.

In the Freshet News questionnaire she named three top issues: fair and predictable funding for public schools, inclusive schools for all students, staff and families, and more school space as enrolment grows. Her promise tracker holds her own promises from that questionnaire and the BCA platform's school commitments.
