## Free Seasonal Bike Valet Program: what the Policy Priorities says

Vote Vancouver says the fear of bike theft keeps people from riding to work. It quotes the Vancouver Police Department as saying more than 2,000 bicycles are reported stolen in Vancouver every year, and says many people will not leave a bike locked up all day even where there are bike lanes. The party's answer is a bike valet: a supervised place where people leave their bike and pick it up later. It would use existing, underused EasyPark spaces, which the platform describes as city-owned parking, so the city would not need to build anything new. A free pilot would run from April 1 to October 31, 2027.

The city would track how many people use the valet, what it costs to run, how each station performs, how satisfied users are, the effect on nearby businesses, and whether it adds bike trips and cuts car trips. The results would be published at the end of the season so Council and residents can decide where to expand, change or end the program. The platform describes the spaces as city-owned, and the city owns and designs its streets and parking rules, so Council can approve this pilot without another government. The party presents it as a way to get more use from the city's past spending on bike routes.
