# Vote Vancouver on parks: a 50-metre pool, Kits Pool, Sunset and Marpole pools

Vote Vancouver's parks plan, part of its Public Services section, would keep the Park Board elected, deliver a 50-metre pool, commit to pools at Sunset and Marpole, restore full public access to Kitsilano Pool, keep the 30% tree canopy target and protect the Champlain Heights forest.

## The aim of Parks and Recreation, in the party's words

> We will deliver city parks alongside recreation facilities and programs by:

Vote Vancouver's parks list is on page 31 of its Policy Priorities, inside the Public Services section. It is the plan the party's Park Board candidates run on. On this site it is split into a chapter on pools and recreation and a chapter on parks, forests and trees.

The party would keep the Park Board independently elected and properly funded. It would deliver a 50-metre pool, commit to pools at the Sunset and Marpole community centres, restore full public access to Kitsilano Pool and keep pools open where possible during the Britannia renewal. On green space, it would keep Vancouver's 30% tree canopy target while measuring mature and new trees apart, protect the Champlain Heights forest and trails, and set clear upkeep standards for parks, beaches and trails.

Vancouver's seven elected park commissioners control parks, community centres, pools, rinks and beaches, so most of this list is Park Board work. Whether the board stays elected is set by the Vancouver Charter, which only the Province can change, and the money for large new pools comes through the city's capital plan, which Council approves.
