## Improving School Facilities: what the Policy Priorities says

The last item on Vote Vancouver's education list is school buildings and grounds. The party would start with an inventory audit of elementary school grounds, to check the current limits on how they are used and what upgrades they need. It would keep seismic renewal, the work of making schools safe in an earthquake, in step with the requirements for what the party calls Vancouver's high-risk seismic zone. It would weigh the cost of repairing a school against rebuilding it, without selling off public assets to pay for the work.

The party names one project. It would advocate for faster work on the Olympic Village School, with community consultation on whether the building should have 3 or 4 storeys. It would also partner with the city and the Park Board to improve facilities in dense or underserved neighbourhoods. The Board of Education runs school sites and makes the first decisions on its buildings. Funding for school buildings is shared between the Province and boards of education, which is why the party frames the Olympic Village School as something it would advocate for.
