## Supporting Renters: what the Our Positions says

TEAM for a Livable Vancouver says renters are being pushed out as older, cheaper rental buildings are torn down for new ones. Its planning page says some displaced residents end up homeless. The party's first renter promise is to stop demoviction, the loss of a rental home when the building is demolished, by protecting older rental buildings.

TEAM would set up a renters office to help tenants understand development rules and the protections they have. The party says the office would not repeat work the Province already does. It would improve the supports the city itself can give, keep and upgrade existing co-ops with the subsidies they need, and build new co-ops with larger ground-level homes for families. Public land and money would go to affordable rentals before market rentals.

Rent increase limits and tenancy law are set by the Province, so the city's tools are zoning, its own rules on demolition and tenant relocation, its land and its own programs. Co-op subsidies come mainly from the provincial and federal governments, which is why TEAM says it would work with those governments to keep them.
