# TEAM for a Livable Vancouver on the environment: trees, AI data centres and going electric

TEAM for a Livable Vancouver calls its climate plan the Local Environment Action Plan. It would pause AI data centre approvals, plant and protect trees against heat, stop sewage reaching False Creek, favour reusing buildings, use incentives in place of mandatory rules and ask BC Hydro to change its rates.

CITY COUNCIL

## The aim of Environment, in the party's words

> Protecting our environment is an essential part of creating a livable city for current and future generations.

Our Environment is the third of TEAM for a Livable Vancouver's ten positions. The party says City Hall calls itself green while favouring high-rise towers over low-rise wood buildings and losing trees and green space. TEAM calls its answer the Local Environment Action Plan and says climate policy should be practical, measurable and affordable. Its chapters here are resilient city planning and the move to electric power.

TEAM would pause approvals for AI data centres until local rules can deal with their water and power use, plant and protect trees to reduce heat, plan for floods, rising seas and drought, upgrade sewers so raw sewage stops reaching False Creek, and favour reusing old buildings over demolition. For existing buildings it prefers incentives to mandatory energy rules. On electric power, it would ask BC Hydro to change its step rates, expand public charging, simplify home charger rules and offer incentives for heat pumps and solar.

Vancouver has its own building bylaw, so Council can set energy rules or incentives for buildings that other BC cities cannot. Zoning, sewers and city incentives are Council decisions. BC Hydro rates and school locations are outside the city's control, so on those items it can only ask. TEAM's positions on road pricing, parking and electric buses are on the transportation pages.

</summary>

TEAM for a Livable Vancouver calls it the Local Environment Action Plan. The party says it would care for parks and green space, encourage low-rise wood buildings, and make sure infrastructure can withstand harsh weather, using measures it says are practical and affordable (TEAM Our Environment page).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Would TEAM allow AI data centres in Vancouver?

</summary>

TEAM says it would enact a municipal moratorium on approving and permitting AI data centres while local planning and rules are developed to deal with their effects on livability, the environment, water and power (TEAM Our Environment page).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does TEAM support mandatory building emission rules?

</summary>

TEAM for a Livable Vancouver says it would offer incentives for voluntary upgrades of existing buildings in place of the mandatory rules it says are currently proposed, which it says may be impractical or beyond people's means (TEAM Our Environment page).

</details>

<details>

<summary>How would TEAM encourage electric cars and heat pumps?

</summary>

TEAM says it would expand public EV charging, simplify the rules for adding chargers in homes, encourage electric trucks, and offer incentives for EVs, heat pumps and solar panels. It would also ask BC Hydro to adjust its step rates (TEAM Our Environment page).

</details>

<details>
