## The aim of Economy and Culture, in the party's words

> TEAM’s approach to economic development is to retain existing companies and help them grow, while attracting new businesses to Vancouver.

Economic Development and Arts and Culture are two of TEAM for a Livable Vancouver's ten positions. We have grouped them because the party links both to the same problem: rising land values that push out small businesses and artists. TEAM calls its business plan "A Local Economy that Works for Residents".

For business, TEAM would protect industrial and commercial land from rezoning for housing, cut property taxes and fees for small businesses, keep curbside parking and lower its rates, rent city-owned commercial space for less, buy locally and speed up permits. For the arts, it would protect and add affordable studio and performance spaces, replace city-owned creative space one for one, keep community centres affordable for artists, publish an inventory of arts spaces and support street festivals such as Greek Day and Khatsalano.

Council zones commercial and industrial land, sets business licence fees and parking rates, approves Business Improvement Associations and funds cultural grants, so most of this section is in its hands. Community centres belong to the Park Board and school buildings to the School Board, so arts promises that use those buildings need the boards.
