SCHOOL BOARD

## The aim of Better Schools, in the party's words

> OneCity has a plan to harness the power of the Vancouver School Board and transform how our city expands childcare, invests in our students and staff, and leverages the potential of the VSB’s public land, for the public good.

OneCity's School Board candidates, Krista Sigurdson, Rory Brown, Sherry Breshears, Christopher Lee (李基鵬) and Steve Cardwell, released Better Schools on September 29, 2026. The party's idea is to use land the Vancouver School Board already owns to build child care, community centres and homes, without selling any of it.

Two building projects lead the plan: a community hub on the Kingsgate Mall site in Mount Pleasant, and One Britannia, a rebuild of the 18-acre Britannia site in East Vancouver. The rest is district-wide: child care in schools, universal meals, protected school land, open board meetings, protected arts and music, Indigenous language learning, supports for students with disabilities, mental health services and limits on AI.

The School Board runs schools and plans its land. Housing and rezoning need City Council, community centres need the Park Board, and the Province sets the funding formula and child care licensing, so much of the plan depends on other bodies agreeing.
