## Wellbeing: what the Platform 2026 says

The Green Party of Vancouver sets out its commitments on wellbeing across pages 27 and 28 of its 2026 platform. The central idea is a wellbeing index. The party describes it as a measure of how people are doing in housing, health, income, safety, social connection, the environment and life satisfaction, used alongside economic measures such as GDP, the total value of what an economy produces. The Greens say the city would use the index to check whether its policies improve residents' lives.

Four commitments deal with equity and inclusion. According to the platform, the City of Vancouver closed its standalone Equity Office in September 2025. The party says that office coordinated equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism and reconciliation work across city departments, and the Greens would bring this work back into city policy. They would also support cultural festivals and gathering spaces for Indigenous, immigrant and cultural communities, and fund anti-racism and education work against discrimination based on race, disability or age.

Page 28 covers loneliness and mental health. The Greens would fund community programs, gathering spaces, recreation, arts and volunteering to bring people together. On mental health, the party would press other governments for more services and work with health authorities and non-profits. It also commits to completing what the platform calls means prevention on the Granville Bridge, which here means physical barriers that stop people from jumping, as part of the bridge upgrades. Health services are provincial, so on mental health care the city's role would be to ask the province for more.
