Nate Erskine-Smith won the Ward 19 Beaches-East York council seat on October 26, receiving 21,472 votes, Beach Metro Community News reported. That was 46.75 per cent of votes cast in the ward.

Runner-up Natalie Johnson received 11,187 votes (24.36%). James Dann finished third with 5,461 votes (11.89%). Jennie Worden finished fourth with 3,723 votes (8.1%).

## From federal office to city council

Erskine-Smith represented the Beaches-East York federal riding as a Liberal MP for 10 years before resigning in June 2026. He grew up in the community, attending Bowmore Elementary and Malvern Collegiate. He entered the council race just before the late August registration deadline.

The Ward 19 seat opened when incumbent Brad Bradford left council to run for mayor. Bradford lost to Olivia Chow in Monday's mayoral race.

Beach Metro Community News reported Erskine-Smith saying he and Chow had worked together when he was in federal office: "Olivia Chow and I have worked together in the past when I was housing minister... we set politics aside to get things done."

## What he plans to do as councillor

Erskine-Smith told Beach Metro Community News his main priorities are housing and transit. "Across the city, we need the city building on housing, better transit, faster, more reliable transit," he said.

He described his goal as being "a hyper-responsive councillor" for local needs.

## The full vote count

Beach Metro Community News reported the final results from the ward with all polls counted. Erskine-Smith won 21,472 votes (46.75%). Johnson received 11,187 votes (24.36%), Dann 5,461 votes (11.89%) and Worden 3,723 votes (8.1%). Nine other candidates split the remaining votes across the 13-person field.

The result gives Ward 19 a new face at City Hall for the first time since Bradford first won the seat. Erskine-Smith joins six other newly elected councillors who will take their seats alongside 18 returning incumbents when the new council holds its first meeting.
