Doly Begum, the Liberal Member of Parliament for Scarborough Southwest, endorsed [Olivia Chow](/on/toronto-2026/candidates/olivia-chow) for re-election as mayor of Toronto on October 6, 2026, CityNews Toronto reported.

In a video posted to social media, Begum called Chow "a great leader," "compassionate," "caring," and "experienced," according to CityNews. "During moments of crisis like the one we're facing right now, we need a leader who cares for our city and understands our challenges," Begum said.

## Four other Liberal MPs have also endorsed Chow

CityNews Toronto reported that Begum joins four other Liberal MPs who have backed Chow: Gary Anandasangaree, the MP for Guildwood-Rouge Park; Jean Yip, the MP for Scarborough-Agincourt; Salma Zahid, the MP for Scarborough Centre-Don Valley East; and Rob Oliphant, the MP for Don Valley West.

Chow has also received endorsements from the Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association, Labourers' International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 183, and the Toronto and York Region Labour Council, according to CityNews. Blue Rodeo frontman Jim Cuddy endorsed Chow when her reelection campaign launched last month, CityNews reported.

Chow responded on social media on October 6: "I have had the pleasure of working alongside @DolyBegum for years, representing and championing Scarborough. Thank you for your support, Doly!" CityNews published her post with its report.

## Context

Begum's endorsement came on the same day [Chris Alexander](/on/toronto-2026/candidates/chris-alexander) withdrew from the mayoral race, leaving Chow running against Councillor [Brad Bradford](/on/toronto-2026/candidates/brad-bradford), CityNews reported. Alexander announced he was stepping down on October 6, half an hour before advance voting opened across the city. He made no endorsement.

## Voting dates

Advance voting is open across Toronto from October 6 to 11, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Election day is Monday, October 26, with voting from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the City of Toronto.
