The City’s Members of Council page lists Councillor Parthi Kandavel for Scarborough Southwest. A CBC News report says he posted to Instagram, but no address for that account was found on the City’s list or his site, so no social post is used. The Toronto Star reports on the investigation and two TorontoToday reports on it were not opened (the Star is cited only as The Local describes it, and the TorontoToday pages returned HTTP 403). On May 10, 2026 Parthi Kandavel said in an Instagram post that he was “surprised” to learn the Ontario Provincial Police was investigating allegations against him. CBC News reports that an OPP spokesperson, Tracey Mellersh, confirmed by email an active investigation related to allegations against him. CP24 quotes the OPP as saying the investigation is ongoing and that it could give no further details. He said in the post: “I’ve strived to maintain the highest standards of ethics and integrity and will address any allegations that suggest otherwise.” Allegations, as reported by CTV News Toronto on CP24 on May 11 and 12, 2026. These are claims from unnamed sources. They have not been proven, and no court or regulator has decided anything. CTV News Toronto reports that the investigation appears to involve at least two properties in his ward. One City Hall source said developers had complained that he was asking for money to move a project on Kennedy Road forward, and said they were not sure the developers’ concerns were true. A developer’s representative, who asked not to be named, told CTV News Toronto that he had asked for a “considerable” amount of money for a second development to move forward, and said they did not believe it was part of the City’s usual process for developer payments toward local facilities. Asked about the allegations, a staffer working for Kandavel said the councillor had nothing to share beyond his statement. Mayor Olivia Chow said she would not comment on an active investigation. Stage. CP24’s report of August 7, 2026 says the OPP had shared no details or updates and that no charges had been laid. It also says he registered to run for re-election that day. A person who is charged is presumed innocent until a court decides. A search on October 4, 2026 found no later report of a charge.
