Natalie Johnson is on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Councillor in Ward 19 Beaches-East York, with a nomination filed on May 11, 2026. CP24 reported on May 11, 2026 that she was a longtime CTV News journalist on leave from the network, and her campaign centres on rebuilding the east-end Gardiner Expressway ramp. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as May 11, 2026 and the campaign website votenataliejohnson.ca. CP24 reported on May 11, 2026 that she registered as a candidate that day and was on leave from her position with CTV News. It quotes a CTV News statement that thanks her for her 19 years at CTV News and says the network stopped using her on air once she said she was considering a run. Her campaign website and her written answers in Beach Metro, which are the campaign’s own statements, say she covered Toronto City Hall for 16 years as a journalist and serve on the boards of Community Centre 55 and the Beaches Sandbox. The Local’s tracker also reports the Beaches Sandbox board role. voche.me did not check the board roles with the organizations. Her website says the campaign’s first plank was an accelerated rebuild of the east-end Gardiner ramp. The website sets out plans on the ramp, road safety, community safety, the environment, transit and housing. They include a firm construction timeline for a ramp at Cherry Street, restoring a community response unit at 55 Division, bringing back the 143 Express bus, front-door-only boarding on the TTC, upgrades to stormwater pipes at Kew Beach, and opposition to expanding the island airport. In her Beach Metro answers she says she favours keeping residential property tax increases in line with inflation. CBC News reported on September 19, 2026 that her ramp pledge has been disputed by some other candidates. It quotes Nate Erskine-Smith saying that rebuilding the old Logan Avenue ramp would be impossible, and quotes her clarifying that her plan is to push to speed up the City’s replacement ramp at Cherry Street. CBC says 7 of the 10 candidates who replied to its question said they would advocate for the new ramp to be built quickly. The Local says she is endorsed by Stephanie Smyth, the Liberal MPP for Toronto-St. Paul’s, and by former councillor Karen Stintz. That is The Local’s report and voche.me did not check it with them. TTCriders’ Ward 19 page records no response from her to its 18 transit questions, and Build Canada lists her among the candidates who had not answered its questionnaire. The City Clerk’s 2022 declaration of results for Ward 19 has no entry under her name. No public office is on record in her profile. These are stated positions, not an assessment of results or a complete platform. 01 ### Rebuilding the east-end Gardiner ramp, as her campaign states Her website says she will fight to make an east-end ramp at Cherry Street a political priority, with a firm construction timeline, planning in step with the Waterfront LRT work, and clear accountability across agencies. CBC News reports she says her plan is to speed up the City’s replacement ramp. [Natalie Johnson · campaign website ](https://votenataliejohnson.ca/) 02 ### Community safety, as her campaign states Her website says she will push to formalize 55 Division’s Community Engagement Team, support restoring its Community Response Unit, seek full Neighbourhood Community Officer coverage, and expand uniformed officers on TTC routes in the ward. [Natalie Johnson · campaign website ](https://votenataliejohnson.ca/) 03 ### Transit, as her campaign states Her website says she will bring back the 143 Express bus, explore similar express options on Kingston Road, Gerrard Street East and O’Connor Drive, expand Streets to Homes and crisis-service teams, and advocate for front-door-only boarding to reduce fare evasion. [Natalie Johnson · campaign website ](https://votenataliejohnson.ca/) 04 ### Environment, road safety and housing, as her campaign states Her website says she will upgrade stormwater infrastructure in flood-prone areas such as Kew Beach, expand curbside EV charging, protect the waterfront against island airport expansion, improve road safety, and support more housing at a scale and in places that fit the neighbourhood. [Natalie Johnson · campaign website ](https://votenataliejohnson.ca/) Research status ## What voche.me has checked Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates and Members of Council page, the City Clerk’s 2022 declaration of results, the home page of her campaign website (read from the text embedded in the page, because the page draws its content with script), CP24’s report of May 11, 2026, CBC News’ report of September 19, 2026, Beach Metro’s Q&A with her, The Local’s Ward 19 tracker, Build Canada’s Ward 19 page, TTCriders’ Ward 19 page, The Green Line’s Ward 19 profile and its list of ward debates, and two further Beach Metro pieces on the race. No public office is on record in her profile. Every statement taken from her campaign website or from her own answers is written as her own account. Ward context. The City’s Members of Council page lists Brad Bradford as the Ward 19 Beaches-East York councillor. The City’s list of certified candidates shows him as a candidate for Mayor, and The Local, The Green Line and Beach Metro each report that he is running for mayor and not for the ward seat, so none of the 13 Ward 19 candidates is a sitting councillor. The 13 on the City’s list are Syeda Jaana Ali, James Dann, Nate Erskine-Smith, Fatima Ibrahimi, Natalie Johnson, Kevin Morrison, Karsten Riedel, Mohammad Shabani, Adam Smith, Austin Vieira, Jeff Wahl, Devin Wilkins and Jennie Worden. The City Clerk’s 2022 declaration of results for Ward 19 Beaches-East York lists 7 candidates: Brad Bradford (15,169 votes, elected), Jennie Worden (6,291), Adam Smith (1,902), Steven Thompson (1,735), Frank Marra (1,460), Donna Braniff (702) and Sébastien Auger (469). Of the 13 candidates, the Clerk’s 2022 Ward 19 table names two, Worden and Smith, and The Local says each of them ran there in 2022, in second and third place. No other 2026 Ward 19 candidate appears in that table. Build Canada’s Ward 19 page lists James Dann, Mohammad Shabani, Adam Smith, Austin Vieira and Jennie Worden as the 5 candidates who answered its questionnaire. TTCriders’ page shows answers to its 18 questions from 7 candidates (Ali, Dann, Erskine-Smith, Shabani, Smith, Wahl and Worden) and no response from the other 6. Beach Metro printed written answers from 11 of the 13 candidates on September 22, 2026. A candidate forum for Ward 19 was listed for September 28, 2026 at 5 Massey Square, organised by The Neighbourhood Organization, Don Valley Community Legal Services and the Taylor-Massey Oakridge Community Response Team, and Beach Metro lists a meet-and-greet at Beach United Church on October 5, 2026 that 12 candidates (all but Fatima Ibrahimi) confirmed they will attend. A listing records an invitation, and voche.me found no report of who took part in the forum. Gaps. Her website links separate pages on the ramp, road safety, the island airport and her results, and links Toronto Star, Toronto Sun, CityNews and CP24 stories. Only the home page and the CP24 and CBC reports were read, so the Star, Sun and CityNews stories and the Trillium report that her site cites are unread. Her 16 years at City Hall come from her campaign and her Beach Metro answers, and the 19 years at CTV News come from the network’s statement as CP24 quotes it. The Local’s endorsement report was not checked with the people named. Her Instagram profile opened and returned story-highlight titles without post text, so nothing from it is used. Her Facebook, LinkedIn and TikTok links were not opened. Build Canada’s page lists no questionnaire answers from her, and TTCriders’ page records no response from her. The questionnaire has not been sent.
