01 / Introduction

## About Michael Mitchell

Michael Mitchell appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Councillor in Ward 14 Toronto-Danforth. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as August 20, 2026 and the campaign website toronto-danforth.ca.

His campaign website says he holds a B.A. Honours and an M.A. in English literature from the University of Toronto and an LL.B. from the University of Victoria, and that he was called to the bar in the United States in 2007 and in Canada in 2013. voche.me did not check these with the Law Society of Ontario or the universities. The Local, in its tracker updated September 21, 2026, says he has a background in law and a passion for the environment.

The website says Toronto’s council has made bad decisions that cost taxpayers money and that new people with new ideas are needed. It lists as priorities more support for small business owners, more help for people struggling with addiction, a better response to homelessness, keeping Ward 14’s bike lanes, and stricter enforcement against illegal electric vehicles on sidewalks. It says he believes Toronto-Danforth’s diversity is a strength. It says his priorities overlap with those of the three leading mayoral candidates and that he has met Chris Alexander and Brad Bradford. These are the campaign’s own statements.

The site also says he asked the chair of the TTC Board a question about renaming the Dundas subway station, and that he invited mayoral candidates to record video statements in August, with 7 making statements. voche.me did not check either claim.

TTCriders, a transit rider group, asked every Ward 14 candidate 18 questions about the TTC. Its page lists Michael Mitchell with an answer of Yes to all 18. That list is TTCriders’ record.

The City Clerk’s 2014 results contain a Michael Mitchell in a different ward’s council race. No source that voche.me opened ties that entry to this candidate, and the same name alone is not enough, so the entry is left out.

Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates, its Members of Council page and Councillor Paula Fletcher’s profile, the City Clerk’s 2022 and 2014 results, his campaign website (a single page with About, Priorities and Candidates sections), The Local’s Ward 14 tracker and TTCriders’ page of Ward 14 candidate responses. Every statement taken from his campaign website is written as the campaign’s own account.

Ward context. The sitting Ward 14 councillor on the City’s Members of Council page is Paula Fletcher. The City’s candidate data lists her withdrawal on August 19, 2026, and The Local says she is not seeking re-election. The City’s list has 18 candidates for Ward 14: Maqsood Ahmad, Susan Chapelle, Michael Connor, Dennis Corcoran, Robb Dagenais, Peter De Marco, Sara Ehrhardt, George Fawcett, Mary Fragedakis, John Kladitis, Michael Mitchell, Caryma Sa’d, Dianne Saxe, Devyn Stackhouse, Jason Stevens, Christiane Tetreault, Maria Voutsinas and Denise Walcott. The City Clerk’s 2022 results for Ward 14 list five candidates: Paula Fletcher (20,305 votes, elected), Wali Abro (1,982), James Dyson (1,937), Denise Walcott (1,740) and John De Marco (1,469). A search for a 2026 debate or all-candidates meeting in the ward found none.

Gaps. His law licence and degrees were not checked with the Law Society of Ontario or the universities. The videos and the email to the TTC chair that his website mentions were not opened. No public role is on record in the profile. His social media accounts were not read. The questionnaire has not been sent.
