A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as May 1, 2026 and gives the campaign website Sanders4Mayor.ca. His campaign website describes him as a Toronto community leader and Métis educator who helps people study subjects including English, science, the arts, mathematics and social studies. It says he has been a bus driver, volunteered in Ontario's prison system, served as a First Nations lecturer, yoga instructor, pain management practitioner and school presenter, and advocated for people facing financial, social justice and landlord-tenant issues. The website gives no dates or employers for these. They are his own statements, and voche.me did not confirm them. It also says he owes no favours to his supporters and has promised to resign if he does not begin tackling the big issues within his first year. The City's declaration of results for the 2023 mayoral by-election lists Lyall Sanders with 2,775 votes, 12th of 102 candidates. The Local reports that he is the vice president of the Centrist Party of Canada. voche.me did not confirm that role. The Local's candidate page also carries a report about his immigration consulting licence. voche.me searched for the regulator's own record and did not find one, so the report is not repeated on this page. Read the sources 02 / The issues ## Priorities & positions Campaign-source summary Summarized from the campaign’s published profile. These are stated positions, not an assessment of results or a complete platform. 01 ### Homelessness His campaign website says he would end homelessness through transparency and results, asks where the City's housing and homelessness money goes, and proposes tiny home communities that give people shelter and connect them with mental health support and rehabilitation. The Local reports he would launch a full-scale investigation of the City's spending on shelters and support services. [Lyall Sanders for Mayor campaign website · Homelessness ](https://www.sanders4mayor.ca/homelessness.html) 02 ### Housing His campaign website says he would make housing more affordable by building more homes and reducing delays in development. It gives no number of homes or date. [Lyall Sanders for Mayor campaign website · The Plan ](https://www.sanders4mayor.ca/The-PLAN.html) 03 ### Free TTC His campaign website proposes making the TTC free and says the plan would not raise taxes or cut services. The page shows no cost or funding source. [Lyall Sanders for Mayor campaign website · Free the TTC ](https://www.sanders4mayor.ca/TTC.html) 04 ### Youth jobs, small business and safety His campaign website says the plan creates more job opportunities for young people, supports small businesses, and makes Toronto safer and more affordable. [Lyall Sanders for Mayor campaign website · The Plan ](https://www.sanders4mayor.ca/The-PLAN.html) 05 ### Sankofa Square name The Local reports that he says the people should decide whether Sankofa Square goes back to its earlier name, Yonge-Dundas Square. voche.me did not find the statement on his website. [The Local · Toronto Mayoral Candidates 2026 (updated as of September 21, 2026) ](https://thelocal.to/toronto-mayoral-candidates-2026/) Research status ## What voche.me has checked Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates, the home, About Lyall, The Plan, Homelessness and Free the TTC pages of the campaign website he gave the City, the City’s declaration of results for the 2023 mayoral by-election, and The Local’s candidate page. His plans come from his campaign website and are written here as his campaign’s proposals. Gaps. The website's account of his past work has no dates or employers, and voche.me found no independent record of it. The report on his immigration consulting licence in The Local's page rests on a regulator's decision. voche.me searched for that decision, including the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants' August 2026 list of disciplinary decisions, and did not find his name, so the matter is left out. The Facebook, Instagram and YouTube accounts showed only a login page or a title, so no post was read. No public role is on the profile. The questionnaire has not been sent.
