01 / Introduction

## About Jenny Kalimbet

Jenny Kalimbet appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Councillor in Ward 12 Toronto-St. Paul's. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as June 17, 2026 and the campaign website jennykalimbet.com.

Her campaign website, which is the campaign’s own statement, says she has a background in community organizing, small business advocacy and civic engagement. It describes her priorities as safe neighbourhoods and public spaces, responsive City services, and spending that keeps taxes low.

The Local’s Ward 12 tracker, updated as of September 21, 2026, reports that she works in the office of Etobicoke Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Kinga Surma, a minister in the Ontario government, and that she ran in Davenport in the 2021 federal election as a Conservative and placed third. It says she came to Canada from Ukraine in 2005, received a community impact award from a women’s empowerment non-profit in July 2026, and had an internship in the office of former councillor Ana Bailão, which The Local attributes to her LinkedIn page. It also says she supports mayoral candidate Brad Bradford. voche.me did not check any of these with Elections Canada, the Ontario Legislature or the organizations.

Her platform page says she supports funding for more police, paramedics and mental health crisis response, and wants to end open drug use on the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), replace encampments with permanent housing and expand housing options so families spend no more than 30 percent of their income on housing. It also says she would hold regular town halls and keep an accessible ward office. These are the campaign’s statements.

In answers published by Build Canada, she said Yes to allowing more housing as of right (without a separate approval for each project) where it fits the existing height and character of a neighbourhood, No to road tolls or congestion charges, and Yes to requiring a person to leave an encampment when suitable indoor space is available. She chose police, bylaw enforcement and a more visible official presence as the area for the most added public safety investment, and said the police budget should increase above inflation.

Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates, her campaign website (a single page with sections for About, Platform, Ward 12, Get Involved, Where to Vote, Contact and Donate), The Local’s Ward 12 tracker, Build Canada’s page of Ward 12 candidate answers and TTCriders’ page of Ward 12 candidate responses. The sitting Ward 12 councillor on the City’s Members of Council page is Josh Matlow, who is also a candidate. Every statement taken from her website is written as the campaign’s own account, and the answers on Build Canada are her own words as that site published them.

Gaps. The City’s data names no public office for her, so no council record applies. The Local’s statements about her employer, her 2021 federal candidacy, her award and her endorsement are The Local’s and were not checked against a primary record. Her Instagram account could not be read. TTCriders lists her as giving no response to its questions. The questionnaire has not been sent.
