01 / Introduction

## About Jack Weenen

Jack Weenen appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Mayor. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as July 21, 2026 and gives no campaign website.

The Local's candidate page, updated as of September 21, 2026, says little information is available online about him and that he has no platform available. It spells his surname “Keenen” in the text under the heading Jack Weenen. It says he told The Globe and Mail in 2014, at age 19, that he planned to run for mayor every four years until he was successful, and that he ran in 2018 and 2023. The Globe and Mail article of November 25, 2014 reports that a 19-year-old candidate named Jack Weenen received 52 votes and placed 65th of 65 candidates, and quotes him saying he plans to keep running every four years. The Local links that article to this candidate, and the same name appears in the 2023 results.

The City's declaration of results for the 2023 by-election lists Jack Weenen with 30 votes. Counting the City's list, that is 101st of 102 candidates. voche.me did not open the results of the 2018 election.

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto's list of certified candidates, The Local's candidate page for the 2026 mayoral race, The Globe and Mail's article of November 25, 2014 and the City's declaration of results for the 2023 by-election. Name, office and nomination date are as the City prints them. The 2014 article is used for the candidate's own words in 2014 and is not a 2026 platform.

Gaps. The City's list shows no campaign website, and no 2026 statement by the candidate was found. The link between the 2014 article and this candidate rests on The Local's page and the matching name. The 2018 result was not checked. No public role is on the profile. The questionnaire has not been sent.

2014

### Deckhand and mechanic on local tall ships and tugboats

The Globe and Mail reports that during his 2014 campaign he held jobs as a deckhand and mechanic on local tall ships and tugboats, which he described as political training. This is his own account as the newspaper reports it, and it dates from 2014.
