A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as June 1, 2026 and no campaign website. Ward 2 Est covers City wards 6, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. The City of Toronto’s release of August 24, 2026 lists him among the candidates declared elected by acclamation: “Benoit Fortin, Trustee, Conseil scolaire Viamonde Ward 2”. The City Clerk’s Declaration of Acclamation of the same date names him for Ward 2. Acclamation means that no other candidate registered for the seat, so there is no vote for it on October 26. The board’s Membres du Conseil page, read on October 4, 2026, lists him as Président du Conseil (voche.me’s translation: chair of the board) for the Toronto (East) region. The page gives no start date, so none is stated. L’Express reported on November 19, 2022 that the board chose Geneviève Oger as president and him as vice-president for 12 months at its organization meeting of November 18, 2022. Radio-Canada’s article of October 23, 2018 lists Benoit Fortin as elected in Toronto Est, and the City Clerk’s 2018 results list him first of 4 candidates in Ward 2 with 534 votes, marked elected. The City Clerk’s 2022 declaration lists him as acclaimed in Ward 2. In an ONFR article of December 16, 2025, he is quoted as board president saying that more parents taking part in school board elections and meetings would improve the oversight of school boards, and that many seats are filled by acclamation because too few candidates register. That is voche.me’s English paraphrase of the French article. voche.me read no board minutes, so it cites no recorded vote. [City Clerk · Declaration of Acclamation, 2026 Toronto municipal election, August 24, 2026](https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/8ed9-2026-Declaration-of-Acclamation.pdf) Research status ## What voche.me has checked Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates, the City’s release of August 24, 2026, the City Clerk’s Declaration of Acclamation of August 24, 2026, the City Clerk’s declarations of results for 2018 and 2022, Radio-Canada’s article of October 23, 2018, the board’s Membres du Conseil page, L’Express of November 19, 2022, ONFR of December 16, 2025 and his Know Your Vote T.O. page. Name, office, ward and nomination date are as the City prints them, and the acclamation is stated from the City’s own release and declaration. The City Clerk’s 2018 and 2022 results use Ward 2 as the board numbered it in those years. Radio-Canada’s article names Benoit Fortin as elected in Toronto Est in 2018, which ties the City’s 2018 entry to him, and the board’s page lists his region as Toronto (East). His Know Your Vote T.O. page lists no website or social account, marks him “Elected by Acclamation” and shows all four of its questions as “Awaiting submission”. A name search found no campaign website or social account of his. No board minutes were opened, so no recorded vote, committee role or chair role from minutes is cited. Gaps. voche.me found no platform statement from him for 2026. No start date is given for his role as president because the board’s page gives none. The questionnaire has not been sent.
