01 / Introduction

## About Amanda Coombs

Amanda Coombs appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Councillor in Ward 7 Humber River-Black Creek. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as May 1, 2026 and the campaign website voteamandacoombs.com.

The City Clerk’s declaration of results for the October 24, 2022 general election lists Amanda Coombs third among 3 candidates for Councillor in Ward 7 Humber River-Black Creek, with 2,282 votes. Anthony Perruzza was elected with 8,707 and Christopher Mammoliti was second with 3,215. The 3 declared totals add up to 14,204 votes, so her share was 16.1 percent, calculated by voche.me from those figures. The Green Line says she ran against Anthony Perruzza in the 2022 election, and the Downsview Advocate’s September 2022 candidate list names her among the Ward 7 candidates. Those two sources are what link the entry to this candidate. The Local says she has run for Ward 7 councillor twice. voche.me found no source for the earlier run.

York University’s news service reported on February 27, 2024 that Back 2 Basickz Youth Support Services, founded by York alumna Amanda Coombs, opened a centre in Scarborough, and that the program began in the Jane and Finch neighbourhood in 2013. It names her as the organization’s executive director. Her campaign website calls her the founder of Back 2 Basickz and says she works with the Toronto Community Crisis Team. The Local describes her as a Toronto Community Crisis Service access facilitator at Gerstein Crisis Centre and says she was a tenant director on the Toronto Community Housing Corporation board from 2018 to 2021. voche.me did not check those two statements against the employer or the board.

Her sources give different lengths of service as a tenant representative: over 8 years on the Downsview Advocate’s 2022 page, 13 years on her About page and 14 years in the Advocate’s 2026 summary. No length is used here.

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates, its Members of Council page, the City Clerk’s declaration of results for 2022, the About us and Platform pages of her campaign website, the Downsview Advocate’s 2022 and 2026 candidate summaries, York University’s news report of February 27, 2024, The Local’s Ward 7 candidate page and The Green Line’s Ward 7 guide. The sitting Ward 7 councillor is Anthony Perruzza, listed on the City’s Members of Council page. He is on the City’s list of certified candidates and is seeking re-election.

Gaps. Her campaign website carries text that belongs to other campaigns: its About page has a heading about priorities for Scarborough and names a George Johnston and a Vanessa, and its Platform page invites ideas for Parkdale-High Park. None of that is used. The earlier Ward 7 run The Local mentions was not found in a source. Her degree, her roles and her organization’s programs come from her own materials and the sources above, and were not checked with the university or the organization. Her X and Facebook accounts load pages with no readable post text to a plain request. The questionnaire has not been sent.
