01 / Introduction

## About Ala'a Adib

Ala'a Adib appears on the City of Toronto’s list of certified candidates for Councillor in Ward 1 Etobicoke North. A certified candidate is one whose nomination the City Clerk has accepted. The list shows the nomination date as May 1, 2026 and gives the campaign website alaaadib.ca.

Her campaign website says she was born and raised in Etobicoke and is a Humber College graduate. These are the campaign's own statements, and voche.me has not checked them against another source. The site also lists three further accomplishments, an Outstanding Mentor Award, a place among Canada's Top 100 Black Women to Watch and a Mayor's Community Safety Award, which voche.me did not check with the bodies that award them.

The Governor General of Canada's directory of honours lists Ala'a Adib of York, Ontario, as a recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal, awarded on June 20, 2025. Her website links to that entry as her official recognition. The Local reports that she founded Smile for Sache, a non-profit that runs programs in the Greater Toronto Area including girls' basketball camps, drop-in sports and March Break camps, and a Ramadan meal program called Feed the Fasting. It also reports that she is a board member at Elephant Thoughts, a non-profit that works on education resources for under-served schools, and that, according to her LinkedIn profile, she worked as a communications specialist at the House of Commons. voche.me did not open her LinkedIn profile.

The Toronto & York Region Labour Council lists her on its own page as an endorsed councillor candidate for Etobicoke North. The Etobicoke Voice reports that Progress Toronto named her one of its six Progressive Champions for the 2026 municipal election on September 11, 2026. An endorsement records the view of the group that gives it.

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 4, 2026: the City of Toronto's list of certified candidates, the home page of the campaign website she gave the City, the Governor General of Canada's directory entry, the Labour Council's endorsements page, The Local's Ward 1 candidate page updated as of September 21, 2026, and The Etobicoke Voice's ward overview. Her priorities come from her campaign website and are written as her campaign's statements. The medal comes from the Governor General's own directory, which lists the name, the province and the award date.

Gaps. Her website's other accomplishments, her education, her non-profit work, her board seat and her House of Commons job were not checked against the awarding bodies, the organizations or an employer. Her Instagram account loaded only a page title, so nothing from it is used. The website's figures about City funding and building audits describe City decisions and were not checked against the City's records, so they are not repeated here. The questionnaire has not been sent.
