[Chelsea Walton](/on/ottawa-2026/candidates/chelsea-walton) won the Stittsville ward council seat on Monday, October 26, in a nine-candidate race to replace former councillor Glen Gower, who chose not to seek re-election. Capital Current reported the result that night.

With 139 of 148 vote tabulators reporting, Walton held nearly 44 per cent of the vote, Capital Current reported. [Theresa Qadri](/on/ottawa-2026/candidates/theresa-qadri) finished second at nearly 15 per cent.

Walton, a former social worker with city hall experience, is now the councillor for one of Ottawa's fastest-growing wards. Stittsville was one of two Ottawa wards without an incumbent on the ballot. The other was Kitchissippi ward, where former journalist Joanne Chianello won.

## What voters said they want

Stittsville residents who spoke with Capital Current on voting day named transit, infrastructure, road safety, housing, and schools as their main concerns.

"The community has grown faster than the infrastructure has been able to keep up," said one resident to Capital Current, describing a congested main street. She said her aging parents live near that street and it is sometimes hard to visit because the road is narrow.

Another resident told Capital Current that the bus used to serve her well but transit to the suburbs has become harder. "It's two buses and a train and if he needed to get home it is over an hour and a half," she said of her husband's commute from Gatineau.

Residents also raised the need for more schools and recreation centres. "If you want to put your child in a class, when it opens there is only a minute or two and it is all gone," one resident told Capital Current, adding that schools are at capacity because of population growth.

Walton also faces questions about road safety. One Stittsville resident told Capital Current that road safety and the roads' condition around them are the most important issues for the ward, along with better transit access to the rest of the city.

## The ward and the race

Nine candidates ran in the Stittsville ward: Walton, Mani Sharma, Sheetal Narwal, Tanya Hein, Theresa Qadri, Kevin Hua, Marie-Ange Yindaki Ahinful, Paul Meek, and Devin Michael Fitzgerald O'Brien.

The City of Ottawa says official results will be published by October 30. Visit [/on/ottawa-2026/news](/on/ottawa-2026/news) for more coverage of the Ottawa election.
