[Ariel Troster](/on/ottawa-2026/candidates/ariel-troster) won a second term as Somerset Ward councillor in Ottawa's October 26 municipal election, taking 9,061 votes, or 62 percent of all ballots cast in Ward 14, the Algonquin Times reported on October 27.

Her closest challenger, Robert Dekker, received 2,818 votes. The other candidates were Michael Tay, Nicholas Gollé, and Dillon Anderson.

## What Troster said

About 40 supporters gathered at Deacon Brodies Pub on Elgin Street to watch the results. Troster told them: "I will continue to fight for real, sustainable solutions to solve this crisis." She named homelessness as her central concern for the next four years and said the ward needs investments that last rather than temporary fixes.

## Her stated priorities

The Algonquin Times reported that Troster's campaign commitments include a city rent bank to help residents facing eviction, investment in supportive housing, and preservation of existing affordable rental homes in the ward. During her first term she served on city committees covering planning, housing, community services, heritage, and transportation. She built her campaign around the idea that people who already live in the ward should be able to stay there as costs rise.

## About the ward and the result

Somerset is Ward 14, covering a central part of Ottawa close to the downtown core. The ward has a large number of rental housing units and a significant homeless population, which shaped Troster's campaign focus.

Troster first won the seat in 2022 after working in the non-profit and labour sectors. During her first term she sat on committees covering planning, housing, community services, heritage, and transportation. Her margin in this election was wider than her 2022 win.

The unofficial results for all 24 Ottawa wards, and a full list of who won council seats, are covered at the [Ottawa election news page](/on/ottawa-2026/news). The City of Ottawa's official results will be certified in the days after voting day.
