Two Ottawa hospitals joined a shared health records network on October 31, giving patients at Queensway Carleton Hospital and Hôpital Montfort access to the same patient portal already used at The Ottawa Hospital, CityNews Ottawa reported.

The two hospitals are among eight new members of the Atlas Alliance, a regional Eastern Ontario health partnership that runs the MyChart patient portal. The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute were already part of the network before this expansion.

## What MyChart does for patients

CityNews Ottawa reported that the Atlas Alliance allows all its member hospitals to share patient information and communicate through one portal. Patients can access their own health records online through MyChart, and their records are visible to any member hospital they attend.

This means that after the system settles in, a patient who gets care at Queensway Carleton Hospital and also at The Ottawa Hospital can have their information shared between both locations through the same portal.

## Longer wait times expected during transition

CityNews Ottawa reported that staff and physicians at the new hospitals have been preparing for the switch, but adjustment takes time. Patients at Queensway Carleton and Hôpital Montfort should expect appointments to run longer than usual in the first few weeks after the hospitals join.

## Other hospitals in the expansion

Six other Eastern Ontario hospitals joined in the same group as the two Ottawa locations: Arnprior Regional Health, Glengarry Memorial Hospital, Hôpital Montfort, Mississippi River Health Alliance (which includes Almonte General Hospital and Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital), Pembroke Regional Hospital, and The Royal.

## What Ottawa patients can do

Patients at Queensway Carleton Hospital or Hôpital Montfort who want to access MyChart should ask their hospital how to sign up. Patients who already have a MyChart account through The Ottawa Hospital will have their records accessible to the newly joined hospitals as well.
