01 / Introduction

## About Yvette Ashiri

Yvette Ashiri's campaign website says she is a long-time resident of Orléans, a mother and a community builder. In the CBC News questionnaire she says she has lived in the ward for nearly 20 years, and that she is a bilingual federal public servant with a background in program delivery, public relations and communications, governance and strategic management. She says she currently serves on the boards of the Orléans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre and Counseling Family Service Ottawa, and has contributed to other organizations including La Cité, the Montfort Hospital, Radio Unique FM and the parents' council of École élémentaire publique Des Sentiers. She also says she was National President of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Canada. These are her own statements, and voche.me has not checked them with the groups named. The City's list shows her nomination dated May 21, 2026.

Earlier races. In the CTV News questionnaire she says she ran in the Cumberland (Ward 19) by-election in 2020 and in Orléans South-Navan (Ward 19) in 2022. The City's official results confirm both. In the by-election of October 5, 2020 she received 1,907 of the 8,699 votes cast, which is 21.9 percent, and Catherine Kitts won with 4,736. In the general election of October 24, 2022 she received 2,716 of the 12,378 votes cast in Ward 19, which is 21.9 percent, and Kitts won with 9,466. CBC News reported that she ran in a neighbouring ward in 2022 and 2019. The City's results file shows the by-election in 2020.

Her campaign website lists several awards and names Canadian Heritage among her experience. voche.me has not checked the awards with the groups that give them and does not list them here.

In her CBC News answers she says she is against raising property taxes and wants the City to cut unnecessary costs, including the Lansdowne redevelopment, which she puts at $419 million. She answered that the police budget should be decreased, with more money for social services, mental health support, youth programs and community response teams. She gave no answer on how to cover OC Transpo deficits. She also wrote that she believes public transit should be free for everyone, though she knows that is not a popular idea, and that free transit for youth, seniors and people on income support is worth exploring.
