01 / Introduction

## About Tanya Hein

The City's list of certified candidates shows Tanya Hein's nomination for Councillor in Ward 6 Stittsville dated May 4, 2026. The City's published results for the October 24, 2022 election give her 1,528 of the 13,222 votes cast in Ward 6, which is 11.6 percent. Glen Gower won with 7,758 votes (58.7 percent), Mathew Duchesne had 2,692 and Kevin Hua had 1,244. The City's list of elected officials for 2022 to 2026 names Glen Gower as Councillor for Ward 6, and CBC News reported that Gower is not seeking re-election, so no sitting member is running in this ward.

CBC News describes her as a former Stittsville Village Association president and paralegal, and says she is one of two candidates who also ran against Gower in 2022. In 2022 she told Stittsville Central that she had lived in Stittsville since 2005, had spent more than a decade with the Stittsville Village Association including seven years as president, and had training in print journalism, work as a legislative assistant to a Member of Parliament and a past small business. Her campaign website says she is a licensed paralegal who runs her business from Stittsville, with landlord and tenant, tribunal, provincial offences and small claims work. These are her own statements, and voche.me has not checked them with her association or with the Law Society.

The minutes of the City's Finance and Economic Development Committee of September 7, 2021 record Tanya Hein, listed as President of the Stittsville Community Association, urging the committee to make the process for the West Carleton Environmental Centre host agreement more transparent, and note that her written comments are on file with the City Clerk. Stittsville Central reported on September 5, 2021 that the President of the Stittsville Village Association, Tanya Hein, said the community compensation was less than she had hoped. The minutes record that the committee carried the recommendations. Her campaign website says she was on the public advisory committee for the Stittsville Main Street Community Design Plan.

Her campaign website sets out three priorities, mobility, money and meeting needs. They include more reliable transit and faster rapid transit, safer roads and better walking and cycling links, more transparency in City spending, efficiencies before tax increases, and a shorter gap between new development and the infrastructure that serves it. In the CBC News questionnaire she says she would like any 2027 tax increase capped at 4 to 5 percent, names a transit levy (a separate property tax charge for transit) for OC Transpo deficits, says police funding should be increased if necessary for safety, and gives 3 on a scale where 5 is strongly agree to the statement that adding more homes to built-up areas will be important for housing in the ward. The sources voche.me read hold no complaint or allegation about her.

At the September 17, 2026 debate CBC News quoted her calling transit the number one priority.

In the CBC News questionnaire she names transit that is reliable, frequent and integrated as the top infrastructure need in the ward, and asks for more answers about the LRT and its legal disputes.

In the CBC News questionnaire she says she would like any 2027 tax increase capped at 4 to 5 percent, and says that may not be possible without large savings or service cuts.

On her campaign site she says property taxes will certainly go up over the next term and that any candidate who promises no increases cannot keep that promise.

Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 6, 2026: the City's list of certified candidates for Ward 6, its list of elected officials and its 2022 results, her campaign website, the CBC News questionnaire and two CBC News reports, the CTV News Ottawa questionnaire, the minutes of the Finance and Economic Development Committee of September 7, 2021, three Stittsville Central articles of 2026 and two of 2021 and 2022.

Gaps. Her years as association president, her paralegal licence, her jobs as reporter and legislative assistant, and her other board roles are her own statements and were not checked against records. The 2021 minutes name her as President of the Stittsville Community Association and Stittsville Central names the Stittsville Village Association for the same meeting. Her Facebook page and her X page showed no posts without a login. She did not take part in the Ecology Ottawa survey. The questionnaire has not been sent.
