01 / Introduction

## About Queen Divine Priya Amber Bakshi

The City's list of certified candidates shows Queen Divine Priya Amber Bakshi's nomination for Mayor dated August 20, 2026, and gives an Instagram account for her. Le Droit, a French-language daily in Ottawa, reported on September 15, 2026 that she is the only woman among the 14 candidates for Mayor and that she works as a performance analyst for the federal government. In its interview with her she said she has no political experience, and she described herself as a mother. At the time of the interview she had no website and had not formally launched a campaign, according to Le Droit.

In her answers to the CBC News questionnaire she wrote that she has lived in Ottawa for 34 years and has 17 years of work in the federal public service on corporate planning, results and reporting. She named no department. These are her own statements, and voche.me has not checked them.

She told Le Droit that she would work for more frequent bus service in areas that have infrequent service, would improve safety and would strengthen the place of French. In her CBC News answers she wrote that the City's biggest challenge is rebuilding trust by showing residents what changed after they raised a problem. She answered Yes on using the mayor's strong powers and wrote that she would use them only if necessary. She answered No to accepting campaign donations from the development and construction industry, and No to City funding for a new NHL arena at LeBreton Flats.

She wrote that she would aim to keep the 2027 property tax increase at or below 3 percent after first looking for savings in City spending, chose a transit levy to deal with OC Transpo deficits, and rated OC Transpo's reliability 6 out of 10. On police she wrote that funding should stay strong while efficiency and accountability improve, and that she would support community services that respond to mental health crises. She wrote that more social supports are the better response to public drug use and encampments, with enforcement kept for immediate safety concerns. She also wrote that she would work for a bilingual Ottawa, support local artists, and set up job shadowing, mentorship and internships for students.

Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 5, 2026: the City of Ottawa's list of certified candidates, CBC News's list of mayoral candidates of August 28, 2026 with her questionnaire answers, and Le Droit's article of September 15, 2026, which is in French and was translated by voche.me. Her plans come from her own answers and from the interview in Le Droit, and each is written here as her statement.

Gaps. She gave the City an Instagram account only. It could not be read without logging in, and nothing from it is used. She has no campaign website that voche.me found, and Le Droit reported on September 15, 2026 that she had none. Her work history comes from her own answers and from Le Droit, and no department or dates were found. No other news report quoting her was found. The questionnaire has not been sent.
