01 / Introduction

## About John Redins

The City’s list of certified candidates shows John Redins’s nomination for Councillor in Ward 10 Gloucester-Southgate dated May 4, 2026, and shows no registration in the Contribution Rebate Program. The City’s published results for the October 24, 2022 election give a John Redins 333 of the 11,663 votes cast in Ward 10, which is 2.9 percent, in a race of six candidates won by Jessica Bradley. Capital Current listed him among the six registered candidates in September 2022, and CBC News reported in September 2022 that Para Transpo user John Redins, running for council in Gloucester-Southgate, took part in a transit challenge for candidates. Para Transpo is the City’s transit service for people with disabilities. CBC News describes him in 2026 as a longtime advocate for accessibility and transit who has entered several municipal, provincial and federal races, and CTV News Ottawa calls him a disability rights and public transit advocate.

A Fort Frances Times profile of February 19, 2025, which carries his answers to the paper’s questions, lists him as the Green Party of Ontario candidate for Kenora-Rainy River in the 2025 Ontario election. The profile says he is originally from Northwestern Ontario, sat on committees of the council of his hometown, Schreiber, and chaired its Economic Development Committee, moved to Ottawa more than 20 years ago, joined the Ottawa chapter of ACORN, and works with the Ottawa Transit Riders Group. In the CTV News Ottawa questionnaire he repeats the Schreiber committee roles, says he was a volunteer firefighter and a former automotive parts manager, and says he began running in elections after long waits for hip surgery. These are his own statements, and voche.me has not checked them with the town, the groups or the party.

His campaign website mentions no party. His public Bluesky posts of September 2026 say he has sat in Transit Commission meetings for 16 years, which is his own statement and was not checked against the City’s records. They also say he wants a National Capital Police Service, criticize OC Transpo’s reliability and the City’s communication about construction on Walkley Road. On October 1, 2026 he posted that the advance voting room at the Greenboro Community Centre is next to the incumbent councillor’s satellite office, and wrote that Elections Ottawa told him this is legal but that he cannot sit there with his sign. He also posted that he asked the incumbent to stand with him against what he called divisive harassment of a local candidate and that she did not get back to him. voche.me has not confirmed either claim and has no reply from the councillor.

In the CBC News questionnaire he answers the question on years in the ward with "Across the street for 21 years", says that the biggest challenge for the next Council is a transparent and accountable government, and that a 2027 property tax increase should be capped at 2.5 to 3 percent. He chooses a transit levy (a separate property tax charge for transit) to cover OC Transpo deficits. On police funding he proposes a motion asking the provincial and federal governments to create a National Capital Police Force, because taxpayers fund four police forces. He gives 4 on a scale where 5 is strongly agree to the statement that building more homes in built-up areas will be important for housing in the ward, and answers yes to prioritizing climate resilience even if it means spending less elsewhere. The longer plans linked from his website load their text with scripts, and voche.me could read only the promise titles and one-line summaries.

The sources voche.me read hold no complaint or allegation about him.

Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 6, 2026: the City’s list of certified candidates for Ward 10 and its open data file of nominations and 2022 results, his campaign website (home, Promises and its blog), 50 of his public Bluesky posts, CBC News of August 25, 2026 with his questionnaire answers, CTV News Ottawa’s questionnaire answers, CBC News of September 2022, Capital Current of September 2022 and the Fort Frances Times profile of February 19, 2025.

Gaps. His Facebook group was not opened, LinkedIn refused the request from a script, and his Threads page was not read for posts. The four plan pages linked from his Promises page load their text with scripts, so only their titles and summaries were read. His statements about his time in Schreiber, his Transit Commission attendance, his groups and his 2025 candidacy were not checked with those bodies. The 2022 candidate in the City’s results, the 2022 CBC News report and the 2025 profile are linked to him by the same name, the same ward and background details that match what he says himself, and voche.me has not asked him to confirm this. The questionnaire has not been sent.
