01 / Introduction

## About John MacRae

The City of Ottawa’s list of certified candidates shows John MacRae’s nomination for trustee of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board in Zone 1 dated August 5, 2026. The City’s open data file shows no withdrawal. He gave the City a campaign website, an Instagram account and a Facebook page. His website describes the zone as West Carleton-March, Stittsville and Rideau-Jock, and CTV News Ottawa lists him among the candidates for the zone.

His campaign website says he grew up in a rural community and has spent a large part of the past 8 years in Zone 1. It says he worked for the City of Ottawa in after-school children’s programs and supervised recreation programs for adults with special needs, and that he has more than 10 years of public service in program delivery, policy and regulatory interpretation, stakeholder relations, process improvement and team leadership. It also says he has taken part in community and political advocacy, including advocating for workers, and does not name an employer, a party or an organization. These are his own statements, and voche.me has not checked them.

The City’s published results for the October 24, 2022 election give Lynn Scott 13,703 of the 21,729 votes cast in Zone 1, which is 63.1 percent, and CBC News reported on August 24, 2026 that she is not running. The board’s page says that since June 27, 2025 the board has been under supervision by the Minister of Education, so that decisions normally made by trustees are made by the appointed Supervisor. His platform says he will speak for Zone 1 during supervision and will work for supervision to end. His five priorities are properly funded public education, with special education and Educational Assistants named; healthy, safe and modern schools, including drinking water, indoor air quality and classroom temperatures; support for every student and for education workers, where he writes that he is proud to support education workers and the unions that represent them; planning for growing suburban and rural communities, including earlier planning for new schools and attention to transportation and boundary changes; and a trustee who communicates openly and brings residents’ concerns to the board.

CBC News reported on August 27, 2026 that he and seven candidates from other zones signed a shared statement of principles that calls for an immediate end to provincial supervision. The statement, which is also on his website, adds more funding for students with disabilities, a commitment to remove hate from schools, and co-operation among trustees. The Ottawa Citizen quotes him saying that without official powers, trustees can work directly with their communities and spend more time listening to them. The sources voche.me read hold no complaint or allegation about him.

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on October 7, 2026: the City’s list of certified candidates for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (an Internet Archive copy) and its open data file of nominations and 2022 results, his campaign website (Home, Platform, Shared Statement of Principles, Zone 1 and Voting Information), the board’s page on its trustees and on supervision, CBC News of August 24 and August 27, 2026, the Ottawa Citizen of August 27, 2026, and the CTV News Ottawa list of school board candidates of September 9, 2026.

Gaps. His Facebook and Instagram accounts could not be read without logging in. His statements about his upbringing, his time in Zone 1, his City programs work, his years in public service and his advocacy were not checked with any employer or organization, and he names none. A possible link to a political party was not established by any source about him, so none is written. The CTV News Ottawa page lists candidates and holds no answers. The voche.me questionnaire has not been sent.
