CBC News named him among the candidates who registered on that day. CBC News's list of mayoral candidates of August 28, 2026 records that it did not receive a completed questionnaire from him by its deadline. CTV News Ottawa posted a video message from him on September 16, 2026. voche.me did not watch the video and takes nothing from it. His campaign website tells his life story in its own words. It says he grew up in Karachi, Pakistan, studied electrical engineering and started a clothing business, and that he arrived in Canada with his family in 1991 and within days worked at a café in Orléans. It says he then bought a grocery store in Ottawa and went on to run businesses including grocery stores, hotels and dry cleaners. These are the campaign's statements, and voche.me has not checked them against another source. The campaign's priorities page proposes six things: City-built homes at a proposed price of $250,000, simpler permits for local business, lower everyday costs, a shared public and private arrangement for OC Transpo, private investment in public projects, and help for residents with high-cost debt. For each one, the page lists details that the campaign says are still to be set out, such as sites, costs and the rules of each program. The vision page adds a plan to expand Ottawa's road network, with no projects, costs or dates yet, and support for families with asylum claims, with the money repaid once they are financially stable. No public office, complaint, finding or news report about conduct was found in the sources opened for 2026. These are stated positions, not an assessment of results or a complete platform. 01 ### City-built homes at $250,000 His campaign proposes that the City build homes on City-owned land without a developer's profit margin, sell them at a proposed price of $250,000, and choose the buyers through a draw open to Ottawa families.
Read the full position The campaign page says it has not yet set out the sites, the number or type of homes, the construction funding, the schedule, the draw rules, the financing or the resale terms. The campaign page says the $250,000 price is a proposal and not a current housing offer.

Read the full position The campaign says this draws on his own experience of owning businesses.
[Amjad Syed campaign · Priorities ](https://www.amjadsyedformayor.com/priorities/) 03 ### Everyday costs His campaign proposes Sunday markets and government-supported warehouses to lower food prices, a City-run car and home insurance program, and free hospital parking for families visiting patients.

[Amjad Syed campaign · Priorities ](https://www.amjadsyedformayor.com/priorities/) 04 ### OC Transpo His campaign proposes a partnership in which the City keeps a majority stake and control of OC Transpo and a private partner holds a minority stake tied to its performance, with measurable standards for reliability, schedules and service.
Read the full position The campaign page says the contract, funding and service standards are still to be developed.
[Amjad Syed campaign · Priorities ](https://www.amjadsyedformayor.com/priorities/) 05 ### Paying for public projects His campaign proposes to attract private investment in public infrastructure and to sell naming rights (payments from companies to put their names on City projects) as extra income for the City.
Read the full position The campaign page says projects, partners, agreements and revenue estimates would need to be set out before any of this starts.
[Amjad Syed campaign · Priorities ](https://www.amjadsyedformayor.com/priorities/) 06 ### Relief from high-cost debt His campaign proposes to use part of any surplus from the City-run insurance program to help residents with payday loans and credit card debt.
Read the full position The campaign page says this depends on the insurance program making a surplus, and that the form of help and who qualifies are still to be defined.
