Vancouver fell to 16th place among 25 Canadian cities in RentCafe's Q3 2026 Canada Renter Interest Report, down from 13th in the same period a year earlier, according to Daily Hive Vancouver, which reported the RentCafe data.

Measures of renter activity on the platform all moved in the same direction for Vancouver in Q3 2026. Page listings fell 34 per cent year over year. Favourited listings fell 52 per cent. Saved searches fell 37 per cent. Rental availability rose 4 per cent.

The ranking measures a city-level rental interest score based on available listings, listing views, favourites and saved searches on the RentCafe site. A city where supply rises while interest activity falls moves down the ranking.

## Victoria reaches highest placement ever

Victoria reached 2nd place, its highest placement since the ranking began, Daily Hive reported. Availability there fell 57 per cent year over year, saved searches fell 13 per cent, and page views fell 27 per cent. The combination of falling supply and continued interest in listings placed Victoria near the top of the demand ranking.

Nanaimo ranked 10th, down from 8th, with the lowest availability rate among all 25 cities studied. Posted listings in Nanaimo fell 28 per cent year over year, and page views fell 40 per cent. Kelowna ranked 20th.

## What the numbers mean for renters

A lower ranking in renter demand, with more listings on the market and fewer people saving and viewing them, can give a renter more room to compare options and negotiate terms. The figures cover the third quarter of 2026, from July through September.

The report is one measure of market activity, based on RentCafe's own platform data. It does not set prices. For current asking prices in Vancouver, the Rentals.ca National Rent Report for October 2026, also released this week, showed the Vancouver average at $2,735, up 0.2 per cent from September.
