The Sport Chek store on Southwest Marine Drive in Vancouver is closing on January 3, 2027. Canadian Tire Corporation, which owns the Sport Chek chain, confirmed the closure to Daily Hive Urbanized in a written statement on November 5.

"As part of our ongoing efforts to optimize our store network and better serve customers, SportChek is closing its SW Marine Drive store in Vancouver, with January 3, 2027, as the final day open to the public," the company said.

The store, at 8125 Ontario St., already has bright yellow "store closing" signs in the windows. A liquidation sale is running now, with most items marked down 30 per cent. The store is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

## Third closure in the region in recent months

Daily Hive reports the Marine Drive location is the third Metro Vancouver Sport Chek store to close in recent months. The West Broadway location in Vancouver and the Lougheed Mall location have both closed. Sport Chek told Daily Hive the Marine Drive closure was "a business decision" but did not give a detailed reason.

After the Marine Drive store closes on January 3, the nearest Sport Chek locations will be the Robson Street flagship store in Downtown Vancouver, Park Royal Mall in West Vancouver, and Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby.

## Employees

Canadian Tire Corporation said it is committed to supporting affected employees through the transition, including offering transfer opportunities where possible. The company did not say how many people work at the Marine Drive location.

## What to know if you shop there

The liquidation sale is on now, with most items at 30 per cent off. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The final day to shop at 8125 Ontario St. is January 3, 2027. After that date, the nearest location in Vancouver is the Robson Street flagship store downtown.
