Vancouver mayor-elect [Pete Fry](/candidates/pete-fry) has already contacted the incoming BC Conservative MLAs for four Vancouver ridings and premier-designate Lorne Doerkson, ahead of his November 2 swearing-in, CTV News reported on October 27, 2026.

CTV News reports that Fry named housing, increasing the number of shelter spaces, and health care as his three main priorities for the new provincial relationship. Fry told CTV News he had met Doerkson about a month before the election and they joked at the time that they might soon be in opposite positions. "And so, here we are," Fry said.

## Housing is the shared ground Fry is counting on

CTV News reports that Fry pointed to his eight years as Vancouver's representative to the Union of BC Municipalities as the basis for relationships he has already built with senior Conservative MLAs. CTV News reports Fry said he wants the two governments to start the relationship well and that Doerkson's post-election speech sent a signal of interest in prosperity and investment for British Columbia. "I want to make sure that we get off on the best possible foot," he told CTV News.

CTV News describes the incoming council Fry will lead as left-leaning, and reports that Fry acknowledged there will be challenges but said he is confident the provincial government will be supportive. "I'm thoughtful and positive that I think it's going to go great," he said.

## Outgoing mayor weighs in

Outgoing mayor Ken Sim, when asked how Fry should approach the provincial relationship, told CTV News: "I hope they do stick up for Vancouver if there's something that Victoria's doing that doesn't make sense for Vancouver."

Fry won the October 17 mayoral election, defeating Sim and becoming the city's first Green Party mayor. The new City Council will be sworn in on November 2, 2026.

Housing was a central pledge in Fry's campaign, including pre-approved building designs and partnerships to keep existing affordable units. From November 2, voche.me will track whether those pledges become decisions.
