Global News projected Pete Fry as Vancouver's next mayor on the night of October 17, 2026, calling the race in favour of Fry over incumbent Mayor Ken Sim.

Fry ran for the Green Party of Vancouver. [Ken Sim](/candidates/ken-sim) ran for ABC Vancouver, the party he helped found before the 2022 election.

According to the Global News report, [Colleen Hardwick](/candidates/colleen-hardwick) of TEAM for a Livable Vancouver finished third in the race. [Kareem Allam](/candidates/kareem-allam) of the Vancouver Liberals finished fourth.

## Preliminary results, official count to follow

The numbers posted on election night are not the final legal result. Under the Vancouver Charter, results reported on October 17 are preliminary. The chief election officer must declare the official result before 4pm on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

After the official declaration, any voter, candidate, or the chief election officer can apply to the Provincial Court for a judicial recount until October 26. No candidate can take the oath of office until that window closes.

Vancouver used tabulating machines to count ballots in 2026, as it did in 2022. The City's open data notes that a similar count in 2018 required recounting 57,000 ballots from 50 voting places after machine jams.

## The four main candidates

The race for mayor drew 10 candidates. The four leading candidates each represented a party with candidates across Council, Park Board and School Board races.

[Pete Fry](/candidates/pete-fry) has held a seat on Vancouver City Council since 2018, running for the Green Party of Vancouver.

Ken Sim won the mayor's race in 2022, running for ABC Vancouver. His administration ran on a platform of public safety and business-focused city management.

Colleen Hardwick, running for TEAM for a Livable Vancouver, built her campaign around pausing upzoning and reorienting planning decisions to neighbourhood scale.

Kareem Allam ran for the Vancouver Liberals and focused his campaign on economic development, the UBC SkyTrain extension and a stricter approach to property crime.

## What voters can do next

The official result is declared by 4pm on October 21, 2026, and published by the chief election officer. Any candidate or voter who believes votes were counted incorrectly can apply to the Provincial Court for a recount by October 26.
