The 106th Vancouver City Council held its final meeting on October 27, 2026. Outgoing Mayor [Ken Sim](/candidates/ken-sim) told Mayor-Elect [Pete Fry](/candidates/pete-fry) directly: "Pete, knock it out of the park, buddy." Daily Hive Vancouver reported on the session.

Sim also said: "You're our mayor. You're my mayor. Damn proud of you." He warned Fry that the job could be lonely and draw intense criticism, and said he would be available to help when needed.

Speaking to his own colleagues, Sim said the council had agreed more than disagreed. "What people don't realize is we actually agree on a lot of stuff," he said, according to Daily Hive. He acknowledged the colleagues who did not win re-election and urged them to take pride in having put their names forward.

## Departing councillors spoke about their time in office

Several members who did not return to the new council spoke at the October 27 meeting.

[Rebecca Bligh](/candidates/rebecca-bligh), who served eight years in municipal office across the Park Board and City Council under Vote Vancouver, thanked City staff and challenged residents. [Lisa Dominato](/candidates/lisa-dominato) congratulated Fry and said her youngest daughter was one of his supporters. [Peter Meiszner](/candidates/peter-meiszner) said the past four years were one of the best experiences of his life and said he would keep following the new council's work.

[Sarah Kirby-Yung](/candidates/sarah-kirby-yung), whose 12 years of municipal office included one term on the Park Board and two on City Council, reflected on affordable housing and childcare projects. [Lenny Zhou](/candidates/lenny-zhou) recalled arriving in Vancouver at 23 as an international student with two suitcases and no local connections. He said he had never expected to one day represent the City.

[Mike Klassen](/candidates/mike-klassen), the only ABC member who won re-election, thanked election workers and said he hoped to stay in touch with the colleagues leaving office.

## City Manager cited the outgoing council's record

City Manager Donny van Dyk closed the tributes. He said the outgoing council approved nearly 60,000 new homes over the four-year term, according to Daily Hive. He also said council spent 256 hours in public meetings in one year, compared with 225 hours at the provincial legislature in the same period.
