[Lina Vargas](/candidates/lina-vargas) is running with ABC Vancouver for one of nine Vancouver School Board trustee seats in the October 17, 2026 municipal election, the Philippine Canadian Inquirer reported on October 10. Vargas is one of 32 candidates seeking those nine seats on the board that oversees elementary, secondary, community and specialized education in Vancouver, UBC Lands, and University Endowment Lands.

According to the outlet, Vargas came to Canada from the Philippines in 2004 as a caregiver, having previously worked as a midwife. Her family joined her in Canada in 2010.

## From caregiver to nonprofit founder

The Philippine Canadian Inquirer reports that Vargas founded Care Cut Mobile Salon, a mobile hairstyling service for seniors and people with disabilities. She is also the founding president of the Diversity and Inclusion Support Group of B.C. (DISG), a nonprofit. The outlet reports that DISG has partnered with Canadian Blood Services on blood-donation campaigns. Vargas has volunteered in initiatives involving seniors and vulnerable residents since 2016, according to the article.

The BC Children's Hospital Foundation's own records list Vargas among participants in its 2018 Balding for Dollars event, the outlet notes. She was also a board member of Filipino BC until 2025, according to the article.
